You can't force a player to play during a pandemic.alan dugdale said:So he’s still contracted till the 30th but won’t play between the 20th & 30th ? Surely he’ll be breaching his contract ?3 -
Great interview by lyle on the podcast. He’s a smart man. I’m disappointed as a Charlton fan he doesn’t want to play for us again, but also understanding of his stance that he doesn’t want to jeopardise his career when his next move will set him and his family up. What with the state of our club, he obviously feels he won’t get that same contract that other clubs will offer. Can’t knock him for that. The blame for all of this lies with the owners, of lack of.15

With the greatest respect, solly isn't a starting player, let alone the best player in the team.SELR_addicks said:Solly is out of contract as well, choosing not to play.
Won't get half the abuse that Taylor will.4 -
If you are not going to play that’s fine but don’t expect us to pay your wages in the meantime. Breach of contract. Now Fcuk off. Btw thanks for the memories. You were, largely, great. Good luck to you. That said, much as it pains me to admit it I completely understand Taylor’s position and in the circumstances I’d feel/do the same, especially given the basket case that club currently is. I suspect Lee has outed him deliberately.Wonder what Solly’s problem is?1

I guess the 10-years service, being through the whole of the Slater / Roland, now Southall years will helpSELR_addicks said:Solly is out of contract as well, choosing not to play.

When he came through there were rumours of a move to West Ham which didnt happen
He stuck around when Meire tried to palm him off to Gillingham and after we got relegated from the Championship when others jumped ship
His injuries have meant he's stuck around a lot longer than he would have done but no way is he in the same breath as Taylor!!4 -
If he was refusing to play was for COVID reasons I could understand but because he might get injured is ridiculous. No sympathy whatsoever for him .Bugger off Lyle and take that ego with you .12
-
Signed a pre contract with another club and they have told him not to play for us, bad attitude from Taylor, still maintain that he dragged the injury out longer than needed.7

Correct about the owners, current and previous.ozaddick said:Great interview by lyle on the podcast. He’s a smart man. Any sensible owner would have tied down their main asset a long time ago on a decent contract.9 -
I'm not surprised at all by Taylor's actions.stackitsteve said:

This. If players are worried about the virus then I've got no issue with them sitting out, but to sit out through fear of injury is a bit of a slap in the face.roseandcrown said:Lee Bowyer getting it out in the public to put pressure on Lyle?
I can understand him not wanting to risk injury and Lyle is a big reason we are in the Championship just feels a bit of a kick in the teeth he gets injured away not representing Charlton we pay his wages while out injured (as we should) but he wont risk a few more games.
If the season had carried on as usual would he have sat out April/May?
I know the contract issue is much more immediate this season because of the delay but there is no confirmed date he could sign with a new club anyway.
I won't say what I think of him.
Ok Solly as well, but let's be honest he's not going to play a crucial role.5 -
I think Solly might retire from playing now tbh - he's been gearing up for a coaching career for a while now12

In one of Lyles recent interviews he did outing Southall he kept talking about the Brentford move not happening and 3 or 4 times stressed he was professional kept doing his job did not sulk. Well Lyle do the same again.10

Insured against losing a contract that doesn’t exist? Sign me up for that policy!ForeverAddickted said:Danny Murphy saying that Lyle should be playing, says that Lyle should speak to the club about an Insurance Policy
Has questioned if the club are capable of doing that though
Acknowledges that Taylor is 30 compared to Murphy being 20 when he went from Crewe to Liverpool
Yet says that playing with the fear of injury is not a good place to be in0 -
And thats the problem.jacob_CAFC said:SELR_addicks said:Solly is out of contract as well, choosing not to play.

Solly isn't as important to the playing team as Taylor
If Taylor is going to get abuse, then will the same people also be abusing Solly? I doubt it.
Same issue where if a star player wants away fans will call him scum and a traitor, but if it's a shit player no one cares.5 -
Told you so....HandG said:CH4RLTON said:And to add to that , I feel does genuinely love the club and if he was offered with us what he could get elsewhere it would be a no brainer.
After hearing the recent interviews with him and the fact that he wanted away in August 2019, I’m surprised when people say “he loves the club” or “he’s proper Charlton” because it is not the impression I get at all. He strikes me as a cleverer than average, very career driven footballer but he’ll never step foot in the Valley again once he leaves in June or July. He doesn’t even like football so can’t be that fussed on Charlton.
I’m not knocking the guy at all (I actually find it refreshing to hear a player being so honest) as he has always given 100% for us and played a massive part in our success last season but “proper Charlton?” No chance. That’s for the likes of Steve Brown, Steve Gritt, Chris Solly etc etc....4 -
I get your point but sitting out in April when the new season resumes in August is far different from sitting out July when the new season might resume 3 weeks after the current one ends.stackitsteve said:

I thought he was only allowed to sign a pre-contract with an overseas club before his Charlton deal expires?WhenIwasLittleBoy said:Signed a pre contract with another club and they have told him not to play for us, bad attitude from Taylor, still maintain that he dragged the injury out longer than needed.
Edit - which he may have done of course...0 -

I’m annoyed by what’s happening, particularly in this case - but Chris Solly still deserves respect for what he has given the club over the majority of his lifetime.39 -
Thanks for giving us everything for our relegation battle and the possible survival of the club Lyle.5

Really hope that doesnt happen, although dont know how I'd feel about seeing him play for another teamLeuth said:I think Solly might retire from playing now tbh - he's been gearing up for a coaching career for a while now0 -

Makes the last two years seem pretty pointless really. Without Lyle we are in far greater danger of going down, so he chooses not to play and we end up back where we were before he signed, but actually in a far worse position due to the players we have lost and the financial situation it leaves the club in.
Just finish what you started like Bow has said, he’s good enough anyway and will get the move at the end of it. He’s contracted to us, so no it’s not too much to ask. Right now he’s being selfish because he knows the importance he has on the team.
Solly is different because he hasn’t been involved for months, wasn’t the last time he played in The FA Cup against West Brom? He may have already been told he wasn’t getting a new deal, so with his previous record, he needs to make sure he is in shape to find a new club, the situation is different. Lyle is in demand and will have a host of clubs to choose from which will pay him 3/4x the money he is on now.
When you look at it, Lewis Page hasn’t played for the first team for 18 months, but is desperate to come back and play for us with the fact that he is also out of contract. He needs this time to ensure he is fit for a new deal, be it here or elsewhere. But instead he wants to play and be apart of keeping us up. It really does show Lyle in a bad light.43 -
No but his reason for not playing isn't really pandemic related. If Pearce didn't want to play because his missus is pregnant then I'd completely understand but it would seem Taylor just doesn't want to miss out on a payday.SELR_addicks said:

Not sure what the terms were but i assume we've terminated Davis' loan and will no longer be paying his wages?0
-
another thing to blame Roland for. If the prat had given him a decent contract in summer 19 this would be a non issue.10
-
I think with Solly it really depends on where the financial security is. Playing for a L1/L2 team as an injury risk or coaching, perhaps even entering the Charlton set-up as he's so close to Bowyer/Jackson. I think the latter is much more secure, but maybe he has a few years left in him playing-wise. Probably a hard decision that he might not have fully made yet, so it's unsurprising he's iffy about playing1

Wasn't implying Solly was shit, he's been great for us.cafctom said:

Just meant that no one will be too fussed about him not playing on because he's not crucial to the team. Same goes for Davis. But Taylor is our best player so will get abuse.2 -
Bowyer said it was because he didn't want to get injured preventing a big money move for him.SELR_addicks said:

Nothing to do with Covid19.6
