Opened this but couldn't read it. Too painfulRufus is a dogs name said:0 -
Another typical CG assist. Oh how I wish he was playing in the second half yesterday.2 -
Come home Conor, those Welsh numpties don't know what they've got.25
-
Does not surprise me, he Loved being at Charlton, Bowyer was getting the absolute best out of him, his confidence is probably draining, and he will finish the season probably on the bench. Bad decision by Chelsea, all be it understandable.
His handles have made a mistake here I think.

Also think he was knackered near the end with us3
-
Only watched the 1st half, but he looked a bit jaded against QPR.
It always annoys me when people complain about players like Connor operating the final third 'giving the ball away', if you are trying to be creative and play forward, then there are always risks involved.
Not every pass will hit it's target, and not every player will make the right movement for you.
However if you keep taking risks, then you will get your rewards.21 -
He was brilliant for us but he did go off like a rocket and started to look tired towards the end. Think we emptied his tank plus trans have all had at least one look at him now. Even if he’d stayed, it was hard to see the second half of the season being quite as sensational as the the first half. I’d still rather he was here, but I’m fine with him not pulling up any trees at Swansea.2

I am starting to wonder if he really wanted to leave, or was forced to.

This. He's from this part of the world, settled, his girlfriend lives locally, he was learning from 2 great ex pro midfielders in Bowyer and Jackson and seemingly enjoying his football. Now he's been shipped off to Wales miles away from anything he's ever known which at his age is obviously tough.NapaAddick said:I am starting to wonder if he really wanted to leave, or was forced to.
However...........i do think there's some truth in the fact he is probably knackered and naturally his form is suffering as a result. People have to remember this is his first year in senior football and the Championship is a very tough league. It's a lot to ask of a young kid to suddenly go out and play 40+ games in a season.11 -
This is very true. You get a lot of players who fear that groan and play cop out balls. The best players know that there is added risk to playing positively and that 's what sets them apart. If you watch Taylor, he does it too and Sarr. These are players who you need a few of to make your team better.Brown Bear said:Only watched the 1st half, but he looked a bit jaded against QPR.

Persuaded, maybe, but players can't be forced to accept a loan move.NapaAddick said:I am starting to wonder if he really wanted to leave, or was forced to.3 -
Gallagher was complemented by Josh Cullen and Jonny Williams, in turn he complemented them
Say it all the time but just because a player is good at one club doesnt instantly mean he'll be great at another -Thats not because he's shit but because the player doesnt work in the system or with the style of players there
Just a shame we never got to see Gallagher and Cullen at the very least again, reckon his form would have turned for the better again13 -
I'm not buying the 'he was knackered' line. Sure his performances dropped towards the end of this time with us, but he still kept running and chasing balls in his usual way.
He has played every minute for Swansea since he went to them so his fitness can't be that bad especially as they have the players to rotate.5 -
We know that was the case. His agent engineered the move with assistance from someone senior on the commercial side at Chelsea. There are two ex-pros supervising his playing development and neither of them wanted the move.NapaAddick said:I am starting to wonder if he really wanted to leave, or was forced to.
He is the star name in an agency portfolio which is otherwise full of no-marks

Since then ( and for this my source is the excellent Price of Football podcast) it has started to emerge that Chelsea are deep in debt, the Oligarch less engaged, and there is pressure to “monetise” their playing assets more than in the past.

He needed a break towards the end of his time with us and with all our midfielders back he would have likely got one but he is now playing every minute at Swansea. Lol at his advisors8

Of course, one possible benefit is that if his form continues to dip he might not be so sought after in summer and we might have a chance of getting him for a "reasonable" fee. Long shot, i know...13
-
He's only been there 5 minutes and he's only just turned 20 years old. He started the season at Charlton, signed in August, and went into the start of the season knowing what his role was. He's a dynamic, box to box midfielder and the way we set up was perfect for his natural way of playing. Now halfway through the season he's had to unexpectedly uproot, move to a different part of the country and immediately adapt to a new way of playing with new teammates under a new manager. Difficult stuff for a lad who's in his first season of senior football. He'll be ok, he just needs time

Doubtful, although another year on loan might not be out of the question.PragueAddick said:Of course, one possible benefit is that if his form continues to dip he might not be so sought after in summer and we might have a chance of getting him for a "reasonable" fee. Long shot, i know...

I'm praying he keeps getting pelters from Swansea fans and then comes back to us at the start of next season13
-
Swansea need to get Cullen on loan if they want the best out of Gallagher.
His performances dropped dramatically when Josh was out for us.0 -
Definitely possible I reckon. I think we all assumed he would be on loan to a prem club next season. But if we show some ambition in the summer it's not beyond the realms of possibilities he is back here for the Season.Pelling1993 said:I'm praying he keeps getting pelters from Swansea fans and then comes back to us at the start of next season

Maybe, but Price of Football alerted me to the change of financial mood at Chelsea. They need to sell to stem the losses, and they do have a huge reserve of good young players, and somebody there may be arguing that they should "monetise" that reserve.cafcfan1990 said:

Also, loans don't deliver payday for agents. Sorry to labour this point, but it's absolutely a factor.1
-
Quite possibly, but I still cannot see Lampard authorising the sale of a young English midfielder. Looking at their current players out on loan I see several who IMO would be way ahead of Gallagher towards the exit.PragueAddick said:

Whilst his agent may have engineered the move and perhaps even pushed for it, Gallagher had to agree.PragueAddick said:

No. Gallagher wants to play senior football and he was more than happy to do that here. His agent and Chelsea engineered the move, sorted the dealings out before he had the chance to get a grasp of what was actually going to happen. The moment Chelsea recalled him was the moment he was forced to go out and play at Swansea. If he were to have outright refused, it wouldn’t have gone down well at Chelsea and he would have been back playing U23s instead.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Conor needed a rest and with us getting players back and through the door, he would’ve got that rest. Time away abroad during that time too. He’s a young lad and needs that every now and then. A week away in the sun whilst being rested would’ve been perfect. Coinciding with players coming back and we would’ve seen the best of him once more.
Instead, of course his advisors know best because that’s what they’re there for, so they have to be right... even when they’re clearly not.16 -

Because of the transfer ban and selling Hazard, they made about 100m profit on transfers last summer, then add in all the tv money and CL money from this season and i can't imagine they're struggling too much. I'm sure Lampard will get well over 100m to spend in the summer.
Although the transfer ban forcing them to play the likes of Abraham, Mount, Tomori and James has saved them an absolute fortune. They also have Hudson-Odoi who is going to be brilliant and they have Loftus-Cheek coming back from injury.0
