Did the club run it? Or was it a Goodbye Horse competition?MartinCAFC said:1997 / 98 the club ran it's Dream Valley competition anyone remember this? It was like a fantasy football based from within the Charlton squad at the start of the season with all the players having prices but you had to stay within a budget so couldn't just pick all the best players.
I ended up winning it, turns out i'd picked the same team as 4 or 5 other managers but the tie breaker was to be the closest to the average attendance for the season which I was closest to and ended up winning the £500 prize.
Can't remember if the club ran it before / after again though.2 -

Certainly Goodbye Horse ran one as I won "Manager of the Month" and still have the lovely plastic trophy somewhere to prove it!Fumbluff said:

Dream Valley was overseen by CASC, if I recall, and in the early years the rankings appeared in VOTV. I tried unsuccessfully to get the Mercury to carry them when I was sports editor. I think Goodbye Horse probably took them over later after we dropped them.Weegie Addick said:

Similar sources. There seem to be a few new people sniffing around, but the line from LDT is that they are at a very early stage.Mal said:Airman Brown said:Blogger is reliable. His sources may not be.

Whether that’s true or not, it’s hard to have any confidence in anyone being able reach a deal with Duchatelet, given people who were serious buyers have been unable to do so.8 -
I think you are right @Airman Brown - but I don't really remember, it was a loooong time ago.

Yep, it will be the same old story. The moment they end up talking to the Shitweasel they'll realise they've got more chance of sorting out a universally popular Brexit deal than reaching a sensible agreement with our deluded, greedy owner.Airman Brown said:

Hope this is true, but if he hasn't sold us at any point in the past 18 months (the timeframe in which we're led to believe he decided he'd had enough) then i can't see him deciding to sell now we're potentially flirting with promotion to the premier league.Mal said:Dave from The blog "Drinking During The Game" stated this today in his blog : "Finally, I heard mutterings from several sources last night that "he will be gone in three weeks" and twice that an American consortium was in talks to end the Duchatelet nightmare. Given history, we have to be sceptical but it will happen one day and soon would be tremendous"
If you were him you wouldn't sell now, you'd at least wait another 2-3 months and see if we can keep the good form up, as if Bowyer could pull off miracle number 2 then he gets his money back.1 -

If he is getting the money he wants then he will sell now instead of gambling on an unlikely promotion.3
 -
If he sells now, he can say we are in a better league position than when he bought us.
Go on Roland, we'll even let you say you've won if that's what it takes for your ego.25 -

If you were Roland you do something ridiculous and stupid. Like sell the club now and then see it re-sold next season for double or triple what you sold it for.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

All he has to do is put a clause for promotion to trigger an additional fee.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Anyone who's anyone knows any legit rumor deadline should be 2 weeks in length, amateurs!3
 -
no its generally optimal as a time frame for any take over rumour, just out of reach but enough to pique the interest2

Back in the day, Grandson Jimmy organized a competition (first guess) and I'm sure as everyone's date was passed, there was just One man standing, who said December 2020.
From memory I'm sure the prize was a Week in Benidorm with Thomas Cook.

Page 2 and beyond is where it belongs. Roland is eyeing the premiership, nobody is breaking down his door to buy us and all the fans are as happy as larry.golfaddick said:BUMP
