"When I am laid in earth", from Purcell's Dido & Aeneas
This is a particularly poignant version, if you have a spare 4 minutes

I was at Live Aid and cannot listen to that song without going back to that day, makes me cry every timeFanny Fanackapan said:Drive - The Cars.
Haunting song that accompanied the Live Aid video showing the starving children in Africa.
I challenge anyone to admit they're not moved to tears when watching that heartbreaking footage with this song playing.
 SO emotional.2

Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars - played at my brothers funeral so not necessarily the song just the feelings it brings back
The Verve, Drugs Don't Work - reminds me of my father in law and his battle against cancer
David Bowie, Lazarus - first line 'Look up here I'm in heaven', get's me every single time1

On the Bowie front... 'Letter to Hermione' fitted at the time with my sad teenage angst.BowieAddick said:Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars - played at my brothers funeral so not necessarily the song just the feelings it brings back

Shed a few tears to this.
I must have been sexually mature at a very early age. I was eight when this came out, ladies, if you know what I mean. https://youtu.be/wjYAsVfJE8c https://youtu.be/wjYAsVfJE8c

One of the greatest songs of all time.Salad said:
Tim Buckley (the original) is also great, but different.
Liz Fraser (the singer for this Mortal Coil) actually bonded with Jeff Buckley (Tim's son) after Tim died, largely as a consequence of her covering his dad's song and they started a relationship, which didn't last all that long.
Jeff (a fantastic musician himself) then died crossing the Mississippi River, trying to swim across it...1

Anyway, for me, and a couple of these are a bit out there but worth a listen: Edit: I've spent too much of my life listening to sad songs... Capital Radio from now on. Bold are the ones that hit me the most.
Wish You were Here - Pink Floyd, a song I can barely think of without a tear appearing in my eye. A song that reminds me of both my father and my grandfather.
The Silent Chorus - John Maus - fantastic
Fond Affections - This Mortal Coil
 Collapse - Zola Jesus
 The Deserters - Rachel Zeffira
Before - First Hate - another one I struggle to listen to.
Notebook - Majical Cloudz - as above.
Take me up - Ritual Howls
 Weighed Down - The Horrors
 Decades - Joy Division
 Heaven - Talking Heads
 Missing Sibling - Black Marble
Highway Road - Interlude - Bobby Raps
Big City Life - Dead Confederate.
Something for everyone there.... If you love one in the list, you'll probably like the others.0
