Bobby Curtis. Apart from when the pressure was really on in the potential promotion clincher v Preston. Only time I saw him miss.

    Way to go yet, Lyle.

    Buyens absolutely oozed confidence.

According to the official YouTube channel, in that 2014/15 season with Buyens taking and Hendo in goal, we had a 100% record (i.e. every penalty given to us was scored and every penalty given against was saved), that can't have happened too many times!

Buyens by a country mile. Never looked like he’d ever miss

Buyers, but imagine if he’d been here the season we didn’t get any.

Reid, Killer, Curtis & Clive all good and rarely missed.

Seven heroes at Wembley can never be forgotten.
And on the flip side imagine if he'd been here last season games like Rochdale and Peterborough could have been won and got us automatic promotion if Buyens was around! I don't recall a keeper getting anywhere near a Buyens penalty you just knew he would always score.

Bob Curtis , I remember Mark Reid missing one against Palace when we got 3 pens in the same match
Wasn't that the day we got that piece of paper thrust into our hand

    Buyens is N/A

Belgian bloke that only stayed for one season and he's someone Thomas Drieson would attempt to brag about.

8/8 is obviously pretty decent but to be honest, in my eyes it means f*ck all.

There is only one winner for me regarding this and that is Darren Bent.

Excellent penalty taker. Hit very hard and well placed. Tight in the corner....and against premier League opposition. More pressure...better goalkeepers.
  • Mark Reid - without question - never saw him miss a pen.

Saw Reid miss two penalties, both against Palace.

As mentioned before, his third penalty at the Valley, goalie (George Wood?) went the wrong way but ball hit his trailing foot and over the bar.

Then at Selhurst, goalie goes one way, ball goes the other and hits the post and cleared.

I remember Bob Curtis missing a penalty in the last game of the 68/69 season against Preston (the year the stripeys went up). We got two penalties that day and Harry Gregory missed the other won! We lost 1-0 and finished third grrr!

Generally Bob was mustard from the spot, but Mark Reid for me also.

    Buyens was class.

Mark Reid was a rare one, cause I never feel comfortable when a left footed player steps up for a Pen - always fancy them to miss for some reason

Curtis was very good, but always put them to the keepers left.  The only time he didn't (Preston at home in 69), he pulled it wide! Reid was excellent and very calm, but he did have two saved (one re-taken) in the Palace home game in 85 that deprived him of a hat-trick. With Mendonca, you knew that even if he missed he'd score later.  Buyens was very good, but does one season make a swallow? So, my conclusion is that the best penalty taker we have ever seen for Charlton is Michael Gray!
  • As others have said, Bob Curtis and Mark Reid for me. They may have missed the odd one, but was always pretty confident when those two stepped up to take a pen.

In fairness to Curtis and Gregory, we wouldn’t have been promoted whatever the result.

If the thread title was favourite pen taker I would have gone with Mark Reid or Bob Curtis.
But it is best and I don't see how you can top Yoni Buyens perfect record.
He exuded self belief from the spot and I never felt he would miss. And he never did.

The other extreme end was Jacko and BWP towards the end of their pen duties. Not sure if it’s my mind deceiving me but almost turned into a guaranteed miss
  • Mark Reid for me.
