    Usual tweets and statements from Trump and others saying "thoughts and prayers with El Paso", "terrible tragedy" etc etc, absolutely nothing will be done about it, then in a week it'll all be forgotten about.

    Said this many times before, but if the US wasn't prepared to wake up and sort out their gun laws after Sandy Hook 7 years ago, then it never will. 

    "More than 200 state-level gun laws have passed since Sandy Hook, but every major attempt at federal legislation has failed".

    Loony tune conspiracy web sites still push that Sandy Hook was a put up job and actors used and people paid off to keep the secret. What’s even more shocking is that an awful lot of people believe it.

    Like a lot of things American. Travel 50 miles inland from the coast and attitudes are very different. Not just about gun law either.

    I agree with this .. and the truth is probably that any nutter, grudge holder, terrorist or suicidal maniac who is determined enough, has planned carefully and has access to automatic weapons and/or TNT, is able to cause mayhem and inflict heavy casualties almost anywhere where lots of people congregate. Nowhere is safe, no shopping malls, churches, 'festivals', college campuses, concerts. Security will always get better, but there is only so much that can be done to ensure the safety of the 'general public'

    Me and Jnr were in Texas last summer and nicer people you couldn't wish to meet.
    There is a definite split in attitudes though between the over 50s and the young. Hopefully the young can force something to happen regarding gun control.

    Yeah, this cannot go unnoticed. This was YET ANOTHER shooter who was an open white supremacist and Trump supporter.

    Why? What's the connection to what's happened overnight in the US? These handguns were almost certainly for use by organised criminals and the illegal drugs trade.

    Ban guns.  Simple solution.  All this prayers and thoughts rubbish is idiotic.

    Ban guns and you will materially reduce the number of shootings.  Anything else is just cognitive dissonance and  waffle.

    The El Paso shooting is terrorism, plain and simple. I imagine it will be passed off as someone with 'mental issues' though.

    He was "taken into custody without incident" and without any law enforcement officers firing their weapons, according to El Paso Police Department Sgt. Robert Gomez. He later told investigators he wanted to shoot as many Mexicans as possible, two law enforcement officials told ABC News.

    a bit like drugs seizures perhaps, stop 10/20/30%. looks good, but what about that percentage which evades detection and confiscation ? .. who knows apart from the crims

    Whereas an unarmed black man can be shot dead by cops despite following instructions exactly. Strange that.
