It's both Root and Bairstow that does it and there is, very often, little or no consultation. They actually ignore what the review is there to eliminate - the clear and obvious mistakes.AllHailTheHen said:It looked plumb as soon as you saw it. Surely Root must have seen that too. Bairstow needs to forget his ego sometimes and stop wasting our bloody reviews!

Yes, I thought perhaps you had left 10 mins early & didn't realise.PaddyP17 said:
As I was there yesterday, I did in fact know that England batted again last night. I was making the point that Leach actually looked very decent with the bat, and tongue-in-cheek suggested he should open up more regularly.Covered End said:
The point AA was making was we batted again last night, Leach and Burns opened.PaddyP17 said:
Well, it might solve England's problems at the top of the order...Addick Addict said:PaddyP17 said:Leach to open!
Did you expect him not to this morning Paddy?
Leach seriously looks better than Burns.
Anyway.1 -

No real pressure, we still need a lot more runs0 -
Edit - no it wasn't because it was "umpire's call". But it could well have been missing and was not an obvious mistake which is what reviews are for.Addick Addict said:

Bairstow reviews far more than he should. Root was at the other end and should have told him to walk.2

Root defending his mate...or protecting one of the last remaining batsmen?blackpool72 said:Bairstow reviews far more than he should. Root was at the other end and should have told him to walk.
A lot does depend on the bloke down the other end. Burns yesterday for example sent Denly on his way correctly, probably wanted a rival for the top 3 places to fail

As AA says, Bairstow reviews virtually everything relating to lbw - im not surprised Root didn't oppose him, as he knows he will get a petulant mouthful from him.blackpool72 said:Bairstow reviews far more than he should. Root was at the other end and should have told him to walk.

Umpire's call, so the review is retained. I don't see any problem in a batsman gaming the system to try to sneak a result if they don't lose the review.blackpool72 said:

What he should have done, of course is...
...hit the bloody ball.1 -
Jofra Archer playing a T20 for Sussex tomorrow, so physically seems ok0

One of the qualities that does get a professional to the top is their single minded attitude. That strength when over done becomes selfishness and that can, at times, be to the detriment of the team.
Root's refusal to bat at 3 and Bairstow not wanting to relinquish the gloves (and as a consequence to bat at 7 where he isn't as exposed as being in the top 4) are evidence of that. But more so is their constant disbelief that they are out when given so hence the number of times they do review such decisions.
They are not quite so keen to back the likes of Broad who, equally, isn't worried about the consequences of wasting one when an opposing batsman isn't given out.0 -
Thanks for explaining.Chizz said:

captain cretin runs out the hitherto untroubled Joe Denly and then idiotically tells walking wicket bairstow to revue Alim Dar's LBW decision for a delivery hitting middle & leg. thicko root owes JD a massive drink and the team a double hundred, not sure his paucity of brain cells will bump into each other often enough to manage either. if his brains were dynamite he'd not have enough to steam up his eyeballs. what. a. farce.
meanwhile moeen ali feathers some more facile catching practice to Wilson, off a delivery that would have missed a 2nd set of stumps - loser.
the longer ed smith persists with these charlatans the worse it is going to get2 -
Thinking of getting a ticket for day four.
Anyone fancy going.2 -

Absolutely clueless batting. Whatever happened to considering pitch, delivery, and, just as importantly, the state of the game?
Why can't batsmen just block or leave the ball instead of going after everything?
