    Interesting that they've picked Foakes as a "specialist" keeper for this match, instead of a batsman/keeper. With Buttler and Bairstow certainties in the ODI side, it would be a dramatic change of strategy at this late stage to have Foakes keep wicket in the WC.

    Well that's nine of the starting XI, barring injury, sorted:

    Roy
    Bairstow
    Root
    Morgan
    Stokes
    Buttler
    Ali
    Archer
    Rashid

    Would think that Plunkett will be left out of the squad and that the two remaining places in the team will lie between Curran (T), Woakes, Wood and Willey.

    Totally against the names on the shirts in Tests.

    I have a ticket for one of the days for the Test and Kennington Oval.  Never seen England-Australia live before so really looking forward to this.  Of course, it's bound to be rained off after 20 overs.

    That was exactly my thoughts. Picking up wickets with rank long hops that would have disappeared into the stands against decent batsmen.

     So? Sums up the latter part of my playing career. The early part was actually picking up wickets with rank long hops against decent batsmen.

    England 2nd team not performing well. Malan & Vince are not up to it imo. Looks like we are going to lose again to Ireland.

    I've never rated Vince in particular & Malan at this winning the World Cup level.

    Not in the first XI, or as a squad opening option because Denly or Buttler could do that, but as someone who has a serious cricket brain and could come in as keeper/batsman if an injury to say Buttler or Bairstow occurred,

    He's certainly had a good match, though it's been an old school "sensible" batting performance which isn't what England have tended to go for in white ball cricket in recent years

    In all seriousness Foakes  has to be in the mix when it comes to England.

    Things I have concluded from today:

    1) You put Roy, Bairstow, Butler, Stokes and Ali in any team and they would be amongst the favourites for the world cup.

    2) If more than 1 of Vince, Malan or Denly bat in the top 6 in the world cup we won't win it.

    3) Why was Archer integrated into the squad until he was eligible? Obviously he couldn't play but he could net/practise and be around the team. It was obvious 18 months ago he could be involved.

    4) England have been so consistent in selection for the last 3 years and it all seems to have gone to pot in the last 6 months.
