Have people really put golf above the World Cup?!

    The Cheltenham Festival.

That said, the most enjoyable single sporting event in my lifetime was 2012 Ryder Cup - The Miracle of Medinah

I remember '66 but was really too young to fully appreciate it.

    1. World Cup
    2. Olympics
You’re right that we’ve held one World Cup but we’ve held three modern Olympics.

Up till the last few years would have been the footy World Cup closely followed by The Ashes but now that’s swapped and in third the Wimbledon Championships

AFL Grand Final, with 100,000+ packed into the MCG.

Even better if it involves West Coast.

Great win last year against the Collingwood filth
  • Seeing sport live gives me so much more than sport on television. I guess that makes County Cricket and non-League football my favourites. The World Cup is the best TV sport but I prefer the earlier rounds involving non-European sides.

Cheltenham for me as well although i also love the World Cup and all the Golf Majors.
  • Has to be the US Masters for me - a unique sporting event in terms of tradition and the test it provides.
Invitational, same venue every year. Is there more to it than that HiutB? Don't see it as that different to the other majors myself, and it is a "Johnny come lately" being a mere 85 years old...
I think it's a better event than the other majors because of the venue - easier to trace the narrative. The Open has more history but doesn't produce the same tension for me.

There are tougher courses than Augusta but the closing holes do provide for an exciting finish. I've loved the event since I was a kid.

Gave them a good going-over last weekend as well.

That's four in a row now against the Maggies, including three at the 'G.

    Carn the Eagles!
