So you would have SCP come in tomorrow? In what capacity? That would mean getting rid of LB and JJ. Seriously? Or was that a tongue in cheek comment?
4 -
Surely with his previous experience as a players rep, he is in the running for the PFA job, now Taylor is stepping down?6
-
was thinking the same DA91
-
Would be a great appointment, but he may not want the job.0
-
i doubt he'd want the PFA job as he'd be calling time on his managerial career.

I was really happy when it was announced he could become our mgr
Insanely happy when he became Mgr it was like a curb moment
loved his stewardship that led us to the title
understabd the internal politics that ruined the Marriage
but
Id have bowyer every day of the week out of the two and think if LB had the support CP did at first I think he would’ve done the same if not more than Powell back then6 -
Don’t think it’s because he’s black, more a case of bad results.2

Speechless.

The one thing you can never doubt about SCP is the integrity and honour of the man, simply a fantastic guy who happened to be a footballer.
I hope he finds another role in football, management or otherwise, the game in some shape or form needs people like Chris Powell.
But "forever blue"..........1 -

The PFA are facing major challenges for players and ex players these are challenges that Powell would be ideal to address and lead on these issues and it will give him stability that maybe he would welcome.0 -

It is one of the strange anomalies with football that you have a few failures and nobody wants you. But with some people, it is how you learn and improve. Part of the problem is that doesn't apply to everybody, but there are probably loads of potentially great managers who never got that second or third or even fourth chance.
You also see different attributes. look at Southgate. He hardly pulled up many trees as a club manager but he seems to be a perfect international manager. Hodgson was a hopless international manager, but choke, cough, splutter, he seems to be decent at club level. We question Pardew's managerial skills but we were desperate for him to join us at one point in history. And he has had success and then failure. I think his record shows that he finds it hard when the wheels may come off, but when he has a positive direction of travel he is successful.
With Powell, I am reminded of his first half season managing us and despite a decent start, he couldn't get the club out of a freefall. Fortunately we had enough points to keep us up. Then he did a fantastic job with not that much money bringing the right sort of players into the club. Something not many managers could have done. By the sound of things, he has been incredibly unlucky with injuries at Southend and even this season with us - we have looked so good but we have had short spells where key players were missing and we have put out weakened teams that were beaten and have probably cost us.
So ultimately, my gut feeling is that Powell still has a lot to offer the game as a manager. The important thing is him using the time he has before his next opportunity to identify what he can do better. He is an intelligent guy and I think he is the sort who can make himself a better manager. Who knows, he may end up managing us again sometime, and in theory he ought to be a better manager than when he was last with us.
Of course I wouldn't swap him for Bowyer. I'm sure hardly any fans would. But Bowyer may be snapped up by somebody else given his talents. You never know what the future holds. Powell may not get another chance, but he may. I hope he does. I have a feeling there is a good manager in there.

I love him. I always have and always will.
Top class super gentleman, leader and all round admirable human being. Still think he will make it as a top manager.
Southend's loss. They will now go down. With him they would have fought to the end and salvaged something.4 - Sponsored links:

I’m convinced we would’ve been promoted that first season back in the Chanpionship, if Powell had been given the summer transfer backing he was promised by the then owners.
At the time everything was right and we had momentum on our side.
It feels like a similar scenario for Bowyer and the play offs this year. If we can win them then who knows; new owners step up and we go on a momentum-fuelled journey to the Premier League. If we blow it then players out of contract, RD grinds us into the ground.
Sliding doors moments I guess.
All ifs buts and maybes now with Powell but good luck to him in the future. Despite what some very odd people say on other forums (!) he’s undeniably a legendary player and manager.4 -

99% of managers will prove you right at some point. Or at least give you a reason to unfairly claim you are right.1

That's the problem with Twitter, it's given every moron on the planet a voice & a platform to spout such utter drivel!!3 -
In a Results business, Chris Powell has been sacked because of poor results.
Nothing to do with colour of skin.
Darren Moore was sacked when West Bromwich were in 4th place after they had 4 indifferent Results and let Norwich and Leeds get a run on them.
A strange and panicked decision by the board of WBA.
Unlikely to be anything to do with skin colour
The % of Black players who get into coaching and get managers jobs compared to the amount of black players who have retired in last 30 years seems very low.
Anything to do with skin colour ?
Only the CEO's and owners know the answers to that.
Not a fan of positive discrimination but only Powell and Houghton seem to be getting the managers jobs on a regular basis.
PFA and Managers association must speak to owners, chairmen and CEO's to find out the amount of Black applicants.0 -

He is either a parody account looking for arguements or a complete and utter Twat0 -

Ps Cockshaw is a parody account.0 -
I always assumed Martin Cockshaw was a parody account because over the last year of picking up on his quotes, every manager is a good friend of his and I thought the surname was the give away because the persona being shown was so cocksure.
Social media is all smoke and mirrors.
( and the pope's a Catholic, Sam ?)
PS. CL members who know CP can ask him as "Chris Powell is a good friend of mine"0
