On the eve of the opening weekend of the season in Australia, the head of Formula One for the FIA, Charlie Whiting, has died in Melbourne aged 66.

Shame that it happened so soon before the new season, casts a long shadow over the opening race. From what I can gather he was universally loved by all the drivers, team principals and everyone else connected with F1. Very big shoes to fill0
