So, the " Home Counties" lads to open tomorrow.blackpool72 said:Considering Jennings only averages about 35 in 1st class cricket unless he starts next season with a couple of centuries I doubt he will get near an England squad in the foreseeable future.
Denly deserves his chance now.
Fingers crossed that this latest pairing are a big success.1 -
To be fair, that's because his wife is about to give birth, rather than him being bombed out of the Test squad due to his last performance!blackpool72 said:
Indeed he is.Addick Addict said:Joe Denly playing tomorrow according to Kent CC Twitter - presumably instead of Jennings
Broad and leach also included in 12 man squad.
Rashid returns to England.

re Ashes tickets.
I got some in the ballot for the saturday - confirmation email and payment taken. Husband hasnt heard yet. Just logged into his lords account, and went to the ticket page, and there was a buy now button next to tickets he'd applied for in the ballot. He clicked on it, and bought them. got an email shortly after confirming the payment which looks v similar to my email i recieved. no idea why or how but worth having a look if you haven't heard yet about your allocation.3 -
he's just told me he had to update his bank details on there, so it may be special circumstances that he was allocated some without payment being taken. a key piece of information that would have been helpful 5 minutes ago when i posted the above. anyway, worth logging on anyway to check if you haven't heard. nothing to lose.
this years haul of tickets:
ashes 3 days oval
ashes 2 days lords
ashes 1 day edgbaston
he's got 1 day old trafford for a stag do.
also got world cup tickets for eng v aus at lords.
oh and st lucia next weekend.
happy cricketing 2019!!

Skybet offering 9/4 on Broad and Anderson to take 5 first innings wickets between them. Must be almost a certainty surely?1

That sounds quite generous, the way the other England bowlers performed in BarbadosSillybilly said:Skybet offering 9/4 on Broad and Anderson to take 5 first innings wickets between them. Must be almost a certainty surely?

Still not too worried as I've got Day 1 and 2 at Lords via MCC friend and various days at the Oval plus 1st day of the series at Edgbaston.1 - Sponsored links:

Fantastic knock by Duckett for the Lions today by the look of it. Would love it if he sorted out his problems against spin and came back into the reckoning as opener (after Denly has his go of course)0
-
Denley's spin should also allow Broad to come in for Rashid, which will give Curran a reprieve. Denley's no Warne with the ball but is probably as good as Chase. He is also an excellent fielder but I hope they don't expect him to go short leg.0
-
I don't think Jennings will be "cold shouldered" by the management in the same way the dozen or so other discarded openers have. Half our tours are now to the sub continent. There is something about him that they appear to really like.
I think the lack of red ball openers posses big questions, out of the 50 odd specialist openers in County cricket we end up picking a guy that bat's at 3 in the second division.0 -
Cook retiring really isn't ideal - if you add him then suddenly the side looks properly balanced with people in their correct batting positions:
Cook
Burns
Denly
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
2 of Curran/Woakes/Ali/Leach depending on the surface
Broad
Anderson1 -
Windies win the toss and bowl first0
-
Denly in for Jennings
Broad in for Rashid
England put in to bat

Looking at the pitch this could be grim, good luck Joe!3

Even money on sky bet for England to lose first wicket for less than 24.5 runs. Tempting on the evidence of first two overs.0
-
Gabriel bowled the first over and then left the field clutching his hamstring0
-
Would Boycott be chasing those wide balls and try to hit them on the up in the way that Denly and Burns have? The score is still 0-0 so absolutely nothing has been gained in doing so.1
-
Gabriel has now come back on and is about to bowl.0
-
4 overs bowled, England yet to score.
Come on Super Joe.0 -
Looked a lot more assured in the second over.
Come on Joe1 -
Weird that you'd throw in a smiley face there. Do you want England to win this Test by fair means or foul?Covered End said:Gabriel bowled the first over and then left the field clutching his hamstring

I'm quite happy to win if their fast bowler is injured.Leuth said:
