The fact that only two players have played a hundred games for the Club (one of those has said he will leave at the end of the season and the other wouldn't pass a medical even if we could sell him) is indicative of the level we are playing and attitude of our owners - where the signing of journeymen on short term contracts and the selling of any youngster worth two bob has become a way of life.

    I'm not that positive!

I will do it when he's gone, but that's a lot of work so I'm not chancing that it might not happen. WIOTOS.

    Great stuff Stig

It's amazing how different things used to be. For example in 1995 a grand total of THREE players made their debut!

I can remember more players from 25 / 30 years ago - Players that played 1, 2 or 3 games, than I can players that have been at the club over the last couple of years.

that was certainly an interesting period in our history

    @Stig you've got Parzyszek's name spelt wrong

Thank's very much @rina, I blame all those people who used to call him Peter Parsley ;-). I've amended it now. Below is a new pdf version @Henry Irving.

If anyone else spot any errors, please let me know.

    Cheers,

Excellent document which I've already saved as an Excel file. The scary bit is that I reckon I have seen nearly two-thirds of those players.

    Brilliant

There's a typo for V549 Scott McGleish. And no I haven't been proof reading it, looking for errors

Not having a go at you Stig, but why “Matt” Taylor and not “Danny“ Hollands?

    Great work, @Stig.

Looking forward to @killerjerrylee's updated opus.

There used to be a @Tommy Dowling (V004) but I've not seen any posts from him in quite a while.

@seth plum at V041 is the oldest what I'd describe as 'regular' poster I think.

Possibly not the right thread but:

V033 is Joseph William Filliston. I believe his father, also Joseph William Filliston, appeared on 'This Is Your Life' aged 100 and is the oldest ever subject on the programme:

    http://www.bigredbook.info/joe_filliston.html

Joe Senior umpired an Old England X1 v Lords Taverners at Lords aged 100!

    https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=ejUqAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT179&lpg=PT179&dq=joe+filliston&source=bl&ots=2rvIWXNBXr&sig=1rlG9TmvvvtEYxVpPWwR3PZy4jw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjerNyOxd7fAhXVoXEKHeuXDmk4ChDoATAEegQIBhAB#v=onepage&q=joe filliston&f=false

EDIT: A picture and brief biography of 'our' Joe Filliston:

and a bit about his War record:

Thanks very much for your comments. I've made some amendments to the post above based on your feedback. I've not amended the pdf version though. I'm afraid that looks like it could be tedious work so I'll either wait until someone is kind enough to proof read it or until there's more changes - or comments fizzle out (I suspect this is the most likely).

@killerandflash - McGleish is now spelt correctly. If only there were some simple rule like i before e except after c to help remember these things.
@AddicksAddict - Quite right Daniel Timothy fully deserves a 'Danny'.
@Henry Irving - I'm not sure why you've copied the Popo entry. Is there an error? I see that most websites don't hyphenate his name, however our own club handbook (at least the 2014/15 one that I've just checked) does.
@LenGlover - Fascinating stuff! Thank you for posting that. I know that you weren't suggesting a correction, but I checked in 'Players Records' and it seems that our Joseph William was like his father also known as 'Joe' so I've added that as well.

Part-timer! Those of us on the Ancona charter flight came back with the full squad.

@Stig, I think you're possible better off removing all the abbreviations like Matt and Danny because a lot of players are more commonly known by this, Christopher Solly for example, and you don't have them mentioned. Perhaps the only additional names you should have are ones where it's nothing like the actual name, Sailor being the first that springs to mind

You could well be right AA, but to be honest I'd rather go the other way and try to include them all if possible. It might not be possible as I know some players were called different things at different clubs. Witness the cat calls whenever Robert Lee is referred to as Rob, although no-one outside of a small group of Charlton fans of a certain age (and possibly his mum) seem to care.

Anyway I'll leave them in for now. I will happily make any additions people want and may one day even try to do some research for the sake of consistency.

I had to share a flight back from Tunisia in 1975 with Arthur Horsfield.
    Great stories, good company.
