Shocking defending by Donny. And we thought we were bad.

That's a lovely ball by Taylor to pick out the unmarked Grant, for the 2nd goal.

Just sat down at the bus stop. Cheers oggy

Get in. Really enjoyed that. Just hammers home how frustrating the Oxford & Cov results were in comparison.

I think we benefit from teams that come at us like Barnsley & Donny. It plays into our hands more. So many good individual performances, thought Bielik was superb

Look forward to reading all the views

Once we got over the first 15 minutes when Doncaster went at us it was relatively straight forward. Could have been more than two .
Cullen and Aribo were superb. Good performance all round .

No, it was a Donny defender at the near post heading back on to his own bar, direct from the Charlton corner.

Think they said in commentary that it came of a defender and it looks to me like their guy (Anderson number12) picking up Aribo as the ball comes over.

Great off the ball run by Reeves to distract the defenders

Simple win, didn't need to do anything outstanding to get all the points.

    Donny were hopeless

We are. But this time someone was even worse! 😂
  • Great win but we need to put a little run together to get ourselves back up there. Today means nothing if we go and chuck all 3 points away at Walsall in midweek.

Not a patch on the performance of the last time we won 2-0, against Barnsley, but nevertheless a very welcome 3 points and a clean sheet too. It might have been different if Steer hadn’t blocked that early Donny chance because in the early stages they were looking pretty good.

One concern is that we really took our foot off the gas in the last 20 minutes or so, seeming content just to run the clock down and rely on counter attacking to perhaps bring a third goal. I guess that was the “professional” approach but I’d just love us to open up and attack teams more when they are on the ropes.

All the players were pretty decent but far and away our best player was Bielik. He was immense throughout with great tackles and cool distribution. It’s a travesty really that such a talented youngster stands little to no chance of getting game time at his parent club. There’s far too many of them having their development stunted in this way - even though I’m very pleased we’ve got the benefit of this in the short term.

A win at Walsall and we could be back in the top 6. Amazing really, given how inconsistent we’ve been dropping silly points all season. If we can iron out that inconsistency we could even yet see our lads challenging for a place in the Championship next season.

Is that not Solly overlapping on the left of Taylor, as Reeves enters the box?

I guess that was because of the game next Tuesday.

We saw how jaded the players looked in the Oxford game, played a few days after the huge effort they gave in the Barnsley game.
And today the job was done and the points in the bag, providing no silly late goals were conceded.

Bowyer will want to keep players sharp for Tuesday's game.

I’m always very confident when we are playing at home. At times we look superb other times we were are own worst enemy.

Second half was very dull and turgid. Hopefully, we can beat Walsall and try and build some momentum.

Three points and another clean sheet. I am certain that we will finish in the top 6.

Great game management by cafc in last 20 minutes.
After being so open against Coventry and conceding 2 late goals plus being poor 2nd half against Oxford. The clean sheet was more important than going hell for leather for a killer 3rd goal.
Bielik was class on the ball today and played slick passes from the back.
Donny were very good 1st half but the 2nd goal killed then off from a another well timed run from the chase every ball Grant.
The midfield of Cullen, Aribo, Reeves and Ward played as a unit and there were only good performances today from 1 to 14.
Great cameo from Marshall where he used his pace so well.
I said in preview that there is no correlation from one match to the next for us.
Let's hope next week Cafc prove me wrong.

This is such a weird league. How the hell were they 8th before today’s game, yet last week we lost to 17th placed Rochdale??

It was Solly and Ward running in the box as the ball goes in towards Grant.

Very good ball in by Taylor.

Done enough in the first half to create to score, got a little lucky at times defending. Second half was more of a non event where we nullified any threat and kept our shape well.

Hope Taylor is okay for Tuesday after the minutes he played. Hope Dijksteel is alright as he came off due to feeling his hamstring. Thought Reeves was excellent today and Grant was so much better than a couple of weeks ago. He scores most of his goals at The Valley.

Two strikers on 8 goals so far this season. That’s exciting.

Carry it forward to Tuesday night where we will see a couple of changes, Fosu in for Ward especially as he won’t play much after 90 minutes today.

A win on Tuesday and we go top 6.

    Well done all today.
  • Firstly the performance
For me it was the best one of the season... Forget Barnsley, that was a good game because a better team came to the Valley, we contained them and won 2-0 - Today we pretty much dominated from the off; Steer had pretty much nothing to do all game and Bowyer was able to make such tactical substitutions that we're better prepared for Walsall on Tuesday night than what is possible

On the player front I felt that the game stood out for Karlan Grant and Joe Aribo - Not just because they scored yet because of the effort they put in... Aribo appeared back to his best after a few shocking performances whilst Karlan put in an effort for the whole team, i.e. wasnt just a Striker who expected to be put through on goal yet would drop deep to help out etc... Was also quite impressed with the cameos from Vetokele (maybe deserved a goal) and Marshall who put in some really neat crosses

Special mention to Ben Reeves who appears to have become the player that we thought we'd signed from MK Dons, some lovely balls from him today!!

Only disappointment for me really was Dijksteel... No he's not a Right-Back but has recently done well there, whereas today he kept getting sucked out of position in the first half (Giving Doncaster the whole area to cross for) and then seemingly failed to put in tackle when one of their players pretty much had a free effort but for a saving tackle from Cullen (?)

    Bowyer
After the criticsm he received last week I thought he got his tactics spot on today... Substitutions were clever and was pleased to see Ward playing the entire match (I guess we wont see him Tuesday) - Also got to hear him on the radio as I was getting home, loved the fact that he's as frustrated as the fans, mentioning the fact that whilst he's pleased (He didnt seem that happy) to win, he's even more annoyed with the players after their Rochdale performances now

Good professional win against a poor team (after first 20 mins). Bielik and Pearce were great in helping to keep a clean sheet.

Need to keep this up though in this strange league.
  • Very comfortable today - looked a lot better defensively in second half. Dijksteel was the major weak link but improved as the game went on.

Doncaster had very little attacking threat.

    Aribo is useless

12/1 for first and last goal and another bet on 3-0 and he blasts wide !

When Aribo is on it, as he was today we look a different team.

Donny moved the ball well but without creating much, we were more direct playing in to Grant in particular to run onto.

We looked very comfortable at 2-0 with Pearce and Bielik very solid.

I thought Cullen was given a hard time by their movement and lost their Taylor a few times.

Reeves was good, Marshall impressed, Ward was agressive and influential, Grant should have had two but 8 in early November is a great return.

We did a similar job to Barnsley and confidence was high. We know what followed. Need to carry it on v Warsaw in midweek
  • Hopefully Montserrat wont be a pain in the arse and so demand that he turns up for duty in two weeks... for him to have three weeks rest now would be ideal

I thought we did quite well with Igor when he came on, think his pace with Grant will seriously worry defences as they wont know who to mark

Strange game. I thought first half they played some nice football exposing the left flank. We didn’t really look good yet could’ve been 3 or 4 up at half time.

Grant, Beilik and Reeves were stand outs but Cullen was my motm. He was absolutely everywhere in that second half.
