Did you enjoy junction 16-19, its usually closed in those road works due to accidents.0

Fortunately I sailed straight through at 52 mph in the pissing rain but I’m glad I wasn’t going south as I drove past about 40 miles of stationary traffic. I guess that’s next weeks pleasure on the way home!Chippycafc said:Did you enjoy junction 16-19, its usually closed in those road works due to accidents.

Driving back from Rochdale in May I experienced those roadworks on the M6, plus the similar ones on the M60 and M62!
It's all about converting to smart motorway...0 -
M23 between M25 and Gatwick is all roadworks and 50 mph because they are building "smart" motorway.I asked my son what that was and he said its the use of variable speed limits. So when they have finished it in 2020 they can change the speed limit to 50 when they want to.....killerandflash said:Driving back from Rochdale in May I experienced those roadworks on the M6, plus the similar ones on the M60 and M62!

It also means hard shoulder running, the cheap way to widen a motorwayPemburyAddick said:

Indeed don't try and bypass it though going down the A34 as that's as bad.Sillybilly said:

Smart Motorway 'upgrades'. Improving traffic by causing delays for years.0
-
Don't forget the M20 is closed this weekend between 4-6 (I think) because of a bridge being demolished to allow the work to continue on making this section a "smart motorway".0

Maidstone has been a mess almost every day this week. Roadworks everywhere and with the M20 closure this weekend expecting the whole area to be gridlocked.0

I defended the highways agency the other week. I take it all back, they are run by fucking imbeciles.1

And killing people who break down on them with nowhere to go.RedPanda said:Smart Motorway 'upgrades'. Improving traffic by causing delays for years.

fortunately I was coming back from Dover on Thursday night but the other way was already closed. all the signs say that it was meant to be from Friday night onwards no warning about Thursday night.cafckev said:Don't forget the M20 is closed this weekend between 4-6 (I think) because of a bridge being demolished to allow the work to continue on making this section a "smart motorway".

M20 seems to be closed on at least one section every night and this will be going on until 2020, whilst they turn it into a 'smart' motorway. There is little co-ordination between the various highway authorities. Also so many accidents happening and when one occurs it has a knock on effect for miles around. Kent is not a good place to travel through these days.

The mayhem at Grove Park continues. The station bus stops have both been closed for months.
Our erstwhile Gallic moderator would not have been happy.0 -
Yes, had the misfortune to have to travel up to Bexley 3 times last week, Thursday evening was a nightmare, large freight lorries stopping on the roundabouts, having little idea to the diversion signs, from Leeds castle. Appreciate the roads need repairing but virtually roadworks from Ashford all the way up to Wrotham. Going to try Canterbury via A2 this week, Had to cancel going to the Royal standard pub for 'Saga Louts' new band launch on Saturday night.ME14addick said:M20 seems to be closed on at least one section every night and this will be going on until 2020, whilst they turn it into a 'smart' motorway. I am becoming more and more convinced that the highways authorities in Kent are either trying to cause congestion and force traffic from the roads, or they are just plain incompetent and cannot co-ordinate their work.
New Cut in Maidstone is a major road carrying traffic in the eastern side of the town. This weekend KCC Highways in their wisdom, have sanctioned three way traffic lights on New Cut. With the nearby M20 closed all weekend, this road could reasonably be expected to carry heavier traffic than on a normal weekend and it is ridiculous to allow traffic lights.
It seems that KCC Highways and Highways England are incapable or co-ordinating their work or perhaps they are doing it to create as much disruption as possible?

It's my belief, given the vehement hatred of motorists by the political class, other than when they are frittering the exorbitant taxation they (motorists) pay or being chauffeured themselves at the taxpayers expense (do as I say not as I do) that congestion is deliberately being built into the road system.ME14addick said:I am becoming more and more convinced that the highways authorities in Kent are either trying to cause congestion and force traffic from the roads, or they are just plain incompetent and cannot co-ordinate their work.

Public transport is appalling and governments have given up even pretending to improve it so in order to fulfil a socialist wet dream of 'equality' it is easier to mess up private transport in order to make everyone suffer equally.
I drive 25,000 miles a year or thereabouts and have lost count of the number of times lanes are coned off with not a soul working and invariably average speed cameras too.
Soup de jour as Delboy said. Mess it up for everyone!3 -
For anyone interested, M20 is now open between junctions 6 & 4, both directions.0

Decided to come home a day early as the weather today in the lakes was utter shite. Actually it’s been pretty poor all week although we’ve had a good time. Left at 1400. First 100 miles until Birmingham was in teeming rain with visibility about two yards. Terrifying. From Birmingham it was roadworks city on the M6 and M1 followed by a serious delay on the M25 between junctions 25 and 26. In all took me 10 mins short of six hours and I’m sitting here nursing a serious scotch. Heaven only knows what it will be like tomorrow so I think it was a good call.0
