Why on earth has this not gone to a tiebreaker? Absolutely insane a match this long can only be bad for the final - the injury risk alone. Both players have asked for a tiebreaker now.

Are they allowed to change laws during the game

I don't know or care enough about tennis to understand what the rules are regarding tie breakers but if it's a rule that a tiebreaker cannot decide a match its a stupid one. Looks like it don't matter now anyway...

They should definitely have a tiebreaker in the 5th but it doesn't have to be at 6-6. Make it 12-12, would be like extra time and pens.

It's on a tournament to tournament basis. Three majors do not allow tie breaks in the final set. The US Open is the only grand slam that does.

Yes, would hate to see a tie break at 6-6 in the final set but when it gets to 20+ all it does get a bit silly. 12-12 seems like a good compromise.

I agree. having a Tie Break later in the 5th set at say 10-10 or 12-12 makes sense. Could be another long one between Djokovic & Nadal although hopefully not another 6 hours plus! I lean towards Djokovic but this is very tough to call.

Have a 5th set tie break at 10-10 up to the final and let it go on as it does now in the final only.

Anderson's 5th sets against Federer and today are probably equal to playing an extra 5 set match, it would be hard enough to win against either Rafa or Novak as it is, now I'd say it's pretty much impossible.
  • This is only the 13th pro match to last over 6 hours

Absolutely. It's fun until you realise that it unfairly handicaps one player in the final.

For me I'd say it both players agree to take it to a tiebreaker they should have the option to do so. If that supersedes the rules then so be it. In my novice tennis mind it's equivalent to two teams in football being forced into a never-ending extra time and refusing them the option of penalties.

You've got to think maybe both were terrified of losing the point rather than trying to win it - by the looks of it, it was in the final game.

    Still very, very odd!

I assumed I would miss this match as I was at the cricket. Instead I get in to see Nadal level to make it 1 set all!

No way will this finish tonight, I can't recall the men's semis at Wimbledon spilling over, not due to weather, but because the matches went on too long!
