Accountant Recommendation

Has anybody had a good experience of using an accountant to help them with their year end, a bit of tax advice, expenses, dividends etc.?
I'm about to embark on a permanent part-time role with a company but I have the flexibility in terms of time to grow my own marketing consultancy business in the other 50% of the working week. Transactionally it's not going to be too complicated (I can do that day-to-day) but I want to have someone to turn to around bits and pieces (potentially registering as an employer, VAT registration, insurance etc.)
The ideal scenario is that I go full time with my own business down the line but in the meantime I want to maximise my earnings etc.
Feel free to inbox me if you don't want to throw names into the public domain.
Cheers

And use Quickbooks or Xero!0

All true Charlton fans use Gary Sargeant...6

If you want an efficient, conservative approach I can recommend Harmer Slater, who took over my original accountant's business, and pretty seamlessly.. When I first started using the original guy, I had a remarkably similar brief to yours. But they are not in SEL. Teddington and Sutton.3

RE Jones in Lee do my stuff and have for about 15 years3

I use First Freelance. They set me up from scratch including opening a business bank account, company and VAT registration. Templates for invoicing. They do VAT & tax calculations. £39.60 per week.2

Sent you a PM.1

Ours is £108 per month, but local to us in Herts. I looks like you have enough recommendations.1

I use Clever Accounts for my freelance business, decent enough. Have used Nixon Williams in the past but wasn't massively impressed. One thing, you do need to do a bit of work with any of these contracting accountants and I find they don't always offer in depth advice but if the set up is simple they may well work for you.1

I’m one month into life as a self employed building surveyor and have sent you a pm with the details of the guy I’ve been using. All on line and very easy1

Looking into getting an accountant and going limited. Will look into recommended accountants, but, as a long shot question, anyone know of an accountant that specialises in the creative fields? Need questions answered re doing agency work as a limited company.0

haha, very good. I suppose if they could extremely legally save me on tax (ie point out where i have been overlooking tax relief i would be entitled to) as well as help me set up and maintain a limited company, then yes.masicat said:

just wondering as well what to expect to pay? Obviously others have larger businesses so need more bells and whistles, but really basic stuff I'm looking for.0

I pay £105.00+VAT a month and that includes all insurances for a Ltd company and personal tax return. What type of specific advice are you needing for the creative field? I am in the same industry not sure I've ever needed specific advice on an industry level just basic tax advice.0

just need some one to hold my hand setting up the company and what i need to do my end to make sure i'm paying the right taxes etc. I can fill in a self assesment tax return ok, but just the setting up of the business. But I'm a one man band and have a handful of clients so i should be pretty simple to maintain.Nug said:I pay £105.00+VAT a month and that includes all insurances for a Ltd company and personal tax return. Did you end up choosing anyone, I need to change mine as I've realised they are pretty shit. Not sure whether to go with one of the contractor companies or a local accountant. This is the second contractor accountants I've been with and both have turned out not that helpful.kentaddick said:

I ended up using Sadler Davies in Dartford (Charlton fan). Pay a £90 standing order a month which covers all of my year-end stuff, personal tax affairs (for me and wife) and HMRC bits and pieces.Nug said:
