Carabao (EFL) and Checkatrade Cup changes

No more extra time in the Carabao Cup (except the final)
And in the Checkatrade EFL clubs (i.e. us) will now be able to include players who are on loan at National League clubs. This could be handy in that players we've loaned out to National League clubs can still get some experience playing for our "first" team.

We loan a player out he plays for his team on Saturday, on Monday we say we want him for Tuesday nights game.
Then the club he is on loan to will lose him for 2 or 3 days with travelling and training with our team and it messes there training up, also we then have a player playing who is not used to playing with our team and players as he has been out on loan for ages.
He then has to travel back to his loan team intime to play on saturday.
IMO if a player is out on loan thats it he should only play for us if we recall him7 -
Why oh why oh why do they have to mess with something so important as the Checkatrade Trophy? Is nothing sacred in this country any more?40
-
I doubt there will be much travelling needed as most NL loans tend to be to local clubs, and the Checkatrade group games are all fairly local too. And it's not as if much of our training will be geared towards Checkatrade matches next season anyway!paulie8290 said:

I imagine there will be discussions between both clubs as to whether the player should be recalled for the match or not0 -
I disagree. No discussion at all. One club owns the player's registration, the other doesn't...killerandflash said:

After all, the NL club will send the player back quickly enough if they were to get injured...0 -
As the Checkatrade is nonsense in so many other ways, I see no problem in letting our players play for both our Checktrade team and a NL side.East_Stand_Loopy said:

I was hoping they would scrap this pointless competition altogether! Can't see why anyone gets worked about this in the first place.cabbles said:

It seems like a silly rule change for the sake of change. How about:
-- A slightly wider goal at one end, a slightly taller goal at the other end
-- The home team is allowed to play 12 players for the last 10 minutes
-- The manager can play a joker which means that there are no offsides for his team for 10 minutes
-- The away goalkeeper has to juggle three oranges while a corner is being taken
-- Any goal that goes in-off the post or bar counts as two goals
-- Players shielding the ball within 2 yards of the corner flag can be kicked
-- Referees to use a bell instead of a whistle
That should make it more fun.9 -
I reckon they should put three goals at each end. You can now throw the ball into the goals with your hands and each goal is worth ten points. They should also have a separate ball on the pitch that when it's caught awards 150 points and ends the match.2

We basically did it with RCC this last year. Because you can recall players from outside the EFL, you can basically recall them, play them, then theoretically send them back. In many ways this closes that loophole by just allowing you to play them.paulie8290 said:

Surely can't be too much longer before they scrap the league cup completely.killerandflash said:https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44415928

I'd be surprised if it still exists in 4-5 years time.0 -

We could end up playing Villa in Round 1 if they fall into the Southern section.0

Last season Sunderland had their U21s in the Checkatrade. This season it will be their first team!4

I suspect Carabao is a big brand in the far east is the real reason.4 -

Having said that, if we're drawn away to Villa, I quite fancy that!0

The early games should be played pre-season. At least teams could get fitter playing them and you might get a few more souls turning up.4

Forest Green Rovers away would be ok, new ground for me.1
