A simply fantastic actor, my favourite role of his was as DCI Quirk in an episode of The Sweeney. Hard to believe but he was a pin-up idol for young ladies in the 1950's.0

Used to see him around my town quite a bit when he was filming Heartbeat, seem to remember he was a very down to earth fella who’d always stop for a chat with the old dears. Sad to see a decent man pass.
