Very nice goodbye from Karl on Newshopper.2
-
A lot of arse kissing of Robinson for being a decent guy and a real straight talker from people that belittled Parkinson for being a decent guy, he was better than any of Powell's replacements.
I know this is a move on moment, but at least Parky tried different things and was willing to talk openly and honestly when I spoke to him.
I'm not sure Karl has ever been completely honest.3 -
Personally I won't judge his managerial ability based on what happened here. It's not an ideal situation for anyone to manage under and I doubt even the very best manager's around would do a lot better. That said I also don't have any sympathy for him, he knew the shit show he was walking in to and whether it was his stubbornness or not knowing the full extent of what was going on he should have known better.
Wish him well for the future though.1 -
I'm not sure anyone is outright demanding 4-4-2, just a bit more of a flexible approach and recognition of when 4-3-2-1 clearly isn't working.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Think some of you who are asking for 4-4-2 don't realise the balance of our squad won't let us play that. Jfc isn't good enough to play in a 2 by himself, hence wjy it didn't work out at Rotherham and we only have one natural winter in Marshall, who is cack.

Certainly some truth in this. The other option presumably would be to go 3-5-2 and get the extra midfielder in there, while it would also help cover up the problems we currently have in both full-back positions.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Think some of you who are asking for 4-4-2 don't realise the balance of our squad won't let us play that. Could we not have just tried something different though? 2 of Dijksteel/Aribo/Konsa may be able to play as a pair. Never going to know if we don't try, and it's not as if results could've got much worse.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Think some of you who are asking for 4-4-2 don't realise the balance of our squad won't let us play that. Also don't necessarily need 2 natural wingers... Curbs used to love a more workmanlike wideman ala Graham Stuart.2 -
I'd accept this:kinveachyaddick said:

I didn't hate Karl. He knew exactly what to say to please the fans before and in-between games. I can't say I imagine many people fell for his matey-matey talk but it was still nice to hear given the absolute drivel we've had to hear from the likes of Slade (misery), Fraeye (delusion), Peeters (more misery) and Luzon (derangement). Robinson's true thoughts tended to come out after matches where he liked to blame everyone except himself, but sometimes it's not the worst thing to have your manager be vaguely pleasant about your club in public.
He was very, very rigid with his tactics. We knew that would be the case before he joined and it was made very clear while he was here. Sometimes when things aren't looking up you really do have to change things a bit and he wasn't capable of doing that. The way he blamed everything around him indicates a stubbornness that will hold him back in his managerial career and will stop him ever managing consistently past L1 level. When it clicked though we played some nice stuff, and he identified some decent players, even if he couldn't get the most out of them consistently.
Mostly though, I'm alternating between amused and concerned. If I knew the takeover was definitely going through soon then I would be very entertained to find out just how few members of non-playing staff a football club can actually exist with and still manage to put games on. With nothing guaranteed on that front though it is a little bit depressing. Let's hope someone buys the old bastard out soon so we can rebuild6 -
Karl Robinson got his A Licence at 29. I can only imagine there is no plan B mentioned on the course.9

Pretty stuff, sidewards, backwards and round in circles, but rarely leading to shots on target or goals.cafcnick1992 said:A shame really. Robinson certainly had us playing pretty stuff at times.

I have no problems with Karl for taking the job, and I have no issue with him leaving either really, as he clearly had no future here.
History will probably say he did a reasonable job here, but not brilliant. I think his tactical inflexibility has been shown by his recruitment and team selections, at this level you need to have some bite and strength as well as flashy skills.

I liked Parky when he was our manager and felt he was let down by his players.Dazzler21 said:A lot of arse kissing of Robinson for being a decent guy and a real straight talker from people that belittled Parkinson for being a decent guy, he was better than any of Powell's replacements.

Robbo may have been a nice bloke but in this case he let his players down.2 -
Jake F-C was at his best when he had Clarke and Kashi in midfield with him, plus Holmes and Fosu doing attacking surges. Even playing with just one striker this would've worked if that number 9 had 20 goals in him. This was not the case so when injuries occurred, the midfield became overrun and JFC lack of pace was exposed. All the components of the team broke down and we averaged a point a game, over the last 20 matches which in this mediocre league is poor.000__Jaaaaay__000 said:Think some of you who are asking for 4-4-2 don't realise the balance of our squad won't let us play that. Felt Robinson was an upgrade from Slade but proved unable to get results against average sides - and unable to change his approach to the game. Went off him in the last 4-6 weeks as it all became increasingly predictable.
On his record will go down, at best, as a slightly above average manager - at least for us.2 - Sponsored links:

Robinson is showing us respect, before taking the Oxford job. Doesn’t want to add to the upset he has already caused today.HarryLime said:Has anyone from Oxford gone WOW! yet?

NEXT.
Assuming it is Lee Bad boy Bowyer,
then if he's got an ounce of sense about him he will play 2 strikers (kyro + Ajose) and play a quicker tempo with less pass backs.
The crowd was too cold and too small to be toxic last Saturday and Karl had wanted to leave for a while and the players must of picked up on this.
Crazy Athletic football club.
We are a soap opera which need some happier story lines.
Bowyer, who makes the Mitchell brothers seem like a pair of choir boys, needs to motivate the players and fans who are still going while this stalemate is on going.

Must admit, I wanted JJ to get the job.2

Would most likely appear that RD and Robinson's lawyers have spent the better part of this working week sorting out the parting of the ways. I snorted when I read Murray's remarks about "how this was best for all involved." For the main three parties involved perhaps, not for the rest of us. I was never a fan of Robinson but this decision just makes a further mockery of the football club we all love.
I was never a fan of Robinson. Arrogant, unrealistic and tactically not a lot of nous. Reminded me of Russell Slade, just a bit more successful. He was as badly treated under the RD tenure but he also knew what he was getting involved with. He was the eighth manager shown underneath this bus and he leapt under it because he'd just been sacked by MK, a club with not much of a reputation, and he was desperate and he thought he was bigger and better than all that had come before and he'd turn it around. Now he's fled the sinking ship too.
Yes, the injuries haven't helped but all clubs have injuries and every single one of RD's managers have used this as a key excuse. Squad has lacked depth all year but Robinson's poor footballing brain has helped increase us falling away.5 -
His stats were bang on ordinary, defensively very poor in a very poor league and waffled over lack of offensive ability, best for all concerned he has gone wish him well at Oxford but they will probably drop; Played: 63, Won: 22, Drawn: 19, Lost: 22, Win%: 35%, Draw%: 30%, Lost%: 35%, Goals For: 78, Goals Against: 80 - very poor2

Really hope you are right.i_b_b_o_r_g said:Trying to tie this to the take-over, could it be possible that KR was told by the "new owner" that he wasn't part of their plans and as part of the deal, RD and KR agreed to do a mutual consent departure?
Maybe an announcement re. take-over on Friday?
You very well could be.0 -
His departing words were good and detailed.
May well just be a case that he knew his days were numbered and he needs a continued income.0 -

The one thing I would say about KR, he talks the talk.....I dont think I have ever seen a manager talk the talk like Karl. It’s not a bad attribute to have in life especially if you follow it up with the walking the walk bit.....7
