Chris Solly - the time for talking is over

I think we all respect him for what he has done for us and the player he was, but he has been poor this season. He might have been ok yesterday, but the odd ok seems to be the best we can expect now. If he proves us wrong, great, nobody will be upset by that!0

Under new owners you'd hope they buy a right back. Djiksteel isn't a specialist rb.OhEddieYouds said:Great player for us who deserves a great testimonial BUT if his contract is up in the summer then it shouldn't be renewed. Djiksteel would offer us more nowadays.
Does anyone know who is out of contract this summer?

Even the words from the captain don’t cut it now. I think we have flattered ourselves with our league position because we have had so many crappy runs and teams have not been overtaking us. People keep saying this league is crap yet we are contributing our fair share of crap too. I am only going out of habit now until the rest of the season ( It’s like getting thrashed 6 nil and staying until the final whistle like some sort of self torture ).0

Yadda, yadda, yadda, bore off with the sound bites and PR puff Chris2

Seen one or two totally ridiculous abusive posts oh here......but way more supportive posts for Chris, having said that, I fear we have seen the best of him.ForeverAddickted said:
Yeah I've read a lot of comments slating Solly of late both on here and TwitterAthletico Charlton said:Literally the one player for the last 3-4 years who has given a shit with the exception of JJ. Has consistently put his body on the line for the club which has led to his injuries now.
The amount of people desperate to write the bloke off on the back of poor form this season amazes me.
Get a proper owner and a proper manager in. You know, a manager who not only can get the best out their entire defence but also realises that a bloke like Solly with his fitness problems does not need to play every single game.
No he shouldnt get a free ride, but the abuse he's getting is ridiculous!!
This is a bloke who's played over 250 times for the Addicks over 10-years and is twice Player of the Year, way people are going he's nothing more than a network signing!!
Nice chap by the way.1 -

Am going to all of the next 4 games. Let’s see if they can turn things around. Need 3 wins, minimum.1

Sadly CS is not the player he once was, he is the least of our problems at the club at the moment.4

Agreed; Probably have seen the best of him, he'll go down as a legend regardless for me as he stood by us when the likes of Fox | Cousins etc. deserted us0 - Sponsored links:

If Solly hadn't had his knee problems, would he have stayed so long? Indeed he might even have been a lower PL player.ForeverAddickted said:

You do realise that if a journalist asks him a question in an interview then generally it requires some sort of an answer?eaststandmike said:

Players who have to do these interviews after back to back losses really are on a hiding to nothing really as they aren't able to say a thing that pleases anyone.

Just to clarify my position on this thread:
I love Solly as a player he has been exemplary throughout his career and even this season he has performed better than most. It is a personal tragedy for him that his knees have not and now will not allow him to test himself consistently at a higher level.
However I stand by my criticism above of his captaincy. A captain should lead and at Peterborough he didn't.0 -

Yes, but come up with something else, gets tiring & frustrating hearing the same old mantra, after every inevitable last minute goal and piss poor performance.cafctom said:

The only reason he has stayed is because he wouldn’t pass a medical anywhere else. If a premiership team had come in for him when he was at the top of his game, he would have gone - and rightly so.ForeverAddickted said:

You can’t blame Cousins, Fox or anybody else who has moved on over the last 4 years. It’s hasn’t been a good club to be at over that period.4 -
The time to stop talking, so I'll go to the press and say it? Shut the f*** up and put in a decent shift. That goes for all your team mates too!0

I appreciate that but when, as has been usual most of this season, Jacko is not playing Solly is captain. I've already criticised Jackson higher up the thread too. They both let us down by not taking responsibility it's what leaders are supposed to do.ricky_otto said:

Agree absolutely with this. Further however, it should never be forgotten that as a youth player Solly did his knee for the first time before kicking a ball for the first team I believe.ricky_otto said:

You can’t blame Cousins, Fox or anybody else who has moved on over the last 4 years. It’s hasn’t been a good club to be at over that period.
He then broke into the first team and despite his previous very bad injury proceeded to stick his body on the line for our club, throwing himself into challenges many of our recent bunch of players would not have the guts or ability to have done even without that previous injury. To me that takes bravery, guts and commitment to the cause. Sadly, it has most definitely contributed to his continued issues. So yes, had a PL team come in he would almost certainly have gone, but it is his determination and dedication in a Charlton shirt that have likely contributed to this not happening.
To me, he is a player who will always give 100% and never hide and for those reasons plus the fact he came through our Youth, and the fact he has put his body on the line, I will continue to cut Solly a huge amount more slack than I would any other player.
If fans can’t show loyalty to a player like Solly then they cannot expect any back from any player, owner, employee etc.5 -

Reading through this thread I think most people are in agreement.
Chris solly is a Charlton legend who has played over 250 games for the club over a ten year period.
He has also won player of the season twice.
Indeed had it not been for his injuries he would have almost certainly played in the premier league.
But the fact is that he has had the injuries and they have affected his performance. Although Chris always gives 100%as he is a true professional I do believe that the injuries are now catching up with him.
How much longer he can continue playing I do not know.
Hopefully a new manager will not overplay him like Robinson does and we can keep him in and around the first team for a couple more years.
But sadly his best days are now behind him.2 -
