Been a lot of traffic this afternoon but that wouldn’t explain what you’ve witnessed. There was a major incident earlier in Plumstead but that was at about 3pm so unrelated0

Road near me in Downham is closed due to a crash of some sort. Causing a lot of confused traffic.
Someone on Facebook just asked if anyone knows what's going on in Deptford as well...

Everyone on Twitter is asking about the Greenwich thing where there were, by most accounts, a lot of police and emergency service vehicles all heading somewhere...0

I went through Deptford Bridge DLR at about 4.45 and there were at least 2 police cars there then, looked like they had stopped a car between them0

Not sure if it's the same incident but the a2 was shut at Deptford Bridge this afternoon after an accident.
Took me 90 minutes to get from Bermondsey to Creek Bridge.0 -
I was in Deptford an hour ago. Complete shutdown. 20 police vans went by. This is a serious incident.0

I cycled home through gridlock from tower to Greenwich, never seen that before. Lots of emergency vehicles too.
On Blackheath I rode past a police van full of police in the baseball caps they wear, they looked a bit hyped up and must have clocked me in my face mask which looks a bit dodgy in any other context0 -

Due to a hit a run by a car going 20 miles over the speed the limit, the man was knocked into the air. I have never heard so many sirens in my life. The police response to a potential terrorist attack was incredible.0

There were alot of police vans and cars dealing with something on shooters hill near to sun in the sands about 8.45 this evening with the slip road onto the a2 towarda blackwall coming off the roundabout closed too. Not sure what that was about0

Police report said the officers in Plumstead received superficial cuts. That's bad enough, but News Shopper reporting officers being slashed made me think it was a lot worse.
After all that, more chaos around 9pm with a load of kids letting off fireworks in Woolwich and causing more delays for buses.1 -
