I can't hold any grudge against Maradona. If we were living in a world where the Corinthian spirit was prevalent and he was some lone freakish cheat, then I would. The sad truth is though, that cheating became the norm rather than the exception with the introduction of 'professionalism'. If I'd have been in his shoes, I like to think I'd have done the same for my country. As someone said above no-one complained when Church did it for us. Of course, I was absolutely fuming at the time and the Hand of God comment afterwards seemed calculated to rub salt into the wound. But now? I really have got more important things to worry about.1

If Terry Fenwick had kicked Maradonna ten foot in the air (as someone like Chopper Harris probably would have done in response to the cheating incident a few seconds earlier), the little shit would likely not have scored the wonder goal and things could have perhaps turned out quite different?0

Yup 100% Stig, he is an Argentine + a cheat, both are clear facts, Mr Ardilles & Mr Pochettino are both Argentine gentlemen I might add in my humble opinion, thus proving I have no issues with those from that country.2

Obviously it's impossible to say, but I think the difference is the sheer amount you see of Messi or Ronaldo. Every time they kick the ball, every second of every match they play is beamed live around the world and a bad game is football headline news.Friend Or Defoe said:

If you lived outside of Italy/Spain/Argentina how much would you have seen of Maradona ? European matches and the World Cup ? Even less of Pele surely as you only saw him play six or seven matches every four years as he never played in a European league.
I'm not saying that Messi or Ronaldo are better than Maradona or Pele, but I don't know how people can be sure that they aren't given how little they must have seen of the latter.0 -
