Also, England should have just refused to play on, walked off the pitch rather than take that

Can't remember Robbie, Mark, Gary and the other 2 playing for England

Terry Fenwick used to live in Bromley.

Well done Inspector Morse! The Buff, Bibbas. The clues were there.

I can't hold any grudge against Maradona. If we were living in a world where the Corinthian spirit was prevalent and he was some lone freakish cheat, then I would. The sad truth is though, that cheating became the norm rather than the exception with the introduction of 'professionalism'. If I'd have been in his shoes, I like to think I'd have done the same for my country. As someone said above no-one complained when Church did it for us. Of course, I was absolutely fuming at the time and the Hand of God comment afterwards seemed calculated to rub salt into the wound. But now? I really have got more important things to worry about.

Er, you might wanna go back and recheck that, quite a few people called him out on it, actually.

Leuth.....you are digging an ever enlarging hole fer yerself mate......we all come across lateral thinking from time to time but you’re really stretching it!

With you on this SoundAs. 95% of the time I am in full agreement with Leuth, he speaks a lot of sense, but he's way off the mark with this one. Sorry mate.
  • Great player of that there is no doubt, however a cheating Argy piece of shit, bloody hand of God, he thought he was the messiah and beyond reproach.

I went to the centenery match at Wembley where he was paid £90k (a fortune in 1987) to play for the rest of the world team. Really it was just an excuse for Bryan Robson to kick him all over the park .

That was the first game I ever went to. The Football League very the Rest of the World.

Lineker at Barcelona so played for Row. Still remember Maradonna being booed at every touch but he was so good.
  • If Terry Fenwick had kicked Maradonna ten foot in the air (as someone like Chopper Harris probably would have done in response to the cheating incident a few seconds earlier), the little shit would likely not have scored the wonder goal and things could have perhaps turned out quite different?

Was reading a 'debate' on Facebook, whether he was better then Messi and Ronaldo...what do people think?

Fair dos. I'll go away and write 100 lines, 'I must not judge other Charlton fans based on my own low moral standards'.

I have just watched MOTD2 and seeing him on the Wembley pitch bowing to the crowd made me want to puke.

I hope the crowd were singing "you cheating, diego bastard"

Any relevance to his nationality in him being a cheating piece of shit?

Cheating by handball, bad. Cheating by physical attack, good?

Yup 100% Stig, he is an Argentine + a cheat, both are clear facts, Mr Ardilles & Mr Pochettino are both Argentine gentlemen I might add in my humble opinion, thus proving I have no issues with those from that country.

The best player to ever play. Played like Messi in an era where protecton from refs was non existent by today's standards.

Of course people may say opponents would be quicker and fitter now days than what he faced but then so would he and they wouldn't be able to kick and hack at him in the way they did back then.

As Denis Law said, a good player would always be a good player regardless of the era.

I don't think Messi ever required this level of attention.

  • The word cnut dudn’t Exist until Maradina’s handball and totally embarrassing drug cheating fiasco. He really has been a disgrace for most of his career, given that his drug taking probably started eons before he was caught. Fat little cnut.
  • I'm not sure what is more embarrassing. Scotland fans having Maradona on the back of their shirts or English fans not getting over something that happened over 30 years ago.

Is that first one from a 100 Japanese kids v Barca game? You never see Messi that far from a team mate in a real game.

Love that pic, partly because it is one of the most misleading sports photos I've seen.

Obviously it's impossible to say, but I think the difference is the sheer amount you see of Messi or Ronaldo. Every time they kick the ball, every second of every match they play is beamed live around the world and a bad game is football headline news.

If you lived outside of Italy/Spain/Argentina how much would you have seen of Maradona ? European matches and the World Cup ? Even less of Pele surely as you only saw him play six or seven matches every four years as he never played in a European league.

I'm not saying that Messi or Ronaldo are better than Maradona or Pele, but I don't know how people can be sure that they aren't given how little they must have seen of the latter.
