I thought Popey was superb this afternoon, but check out Robbie's save for the Geordies tha he tipped around the top right corner. Cracking save!

And we are left with keeper that's more scared of crosses than A vampire

They both got slagged off on here when they played for us.

Look at the video from his time at York. There's several saves in there that are not only fantastic - but he holds them. He is a technically very good goalkeeper and doesn't go foR the Hollywood saves - he relies on good positional play.

Really please to see him doing well and I hope it continues for some time to come

Got into the BBC Team of the Week...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41301493

Makes you wonder how close he could be to getting into an England Squad: Hart (Man City) | Butland (Stoke | Forster (Southampton) | Foster (West Brom) | Pickford (Everton) are the only other English 'Keepers in the Premier League at the moment.

Seeing that Southgate is constantly calling up four Goalkeepers to recent Internationals...

Either way Gareth will have to move himself; Wales are no doubt frantically wondering if he'll buy lunch in Swansea when Burnley play there later in the season so they can call him up themselves!!

Being slagged off on Charlton life or at Charlton games ?

To name just 4 from recent years.

Francis having a great career at Bournemouth in the Prem.

Fox at Sheffield Wednesday in Championship

Harriott at Reading in Championship (recovering from injury)

    Pope at Burnley in Prem.

    Charlton Athletic in League 1

No correlation between slagged off and where your career will go post CAFC

Probably never sees any in training if our attack is anything to go by.

  • harriot, pope and francis were all sad to see go

but fox wasnt right for us and in a way was glad to see him as its helped his career and he is a charlton man.
  • Harriott is a strange case as never plays for Reading (only ever made 12-League appearances)... Wouldnt be surprised to see him back in League One somewhere soon

This thread title has me feeling somewhat uneasy.

Never has a comma been more useful.
  • Watched the Liverpool highlights and I still saw a couple of moments where he showed the flaws he had a Charlton. Hard low shots, especially ones that bounce in front of him, he just can't hold them.

Made some great saves for us, but conceeded too many by not holding onto low shots straight at him where their strikers put the rebounds in. Prem teams will probably start spotting that in his game soon.

Agreed he definitely has a tendency to spill shots and this is the weakness in his game. I think this will hinder his progress.
  • Given a few blunders by Forster, doubts about Hart and i jury to Buckland, could Nick be playing himself into England selection?

And one who wasn't rated by some of us upon his return. Or should I say wasn't allowed to make mistakes because that's what keepers do - especially young ones learning their game.

Pity Dillon Phillips isn't allowed a chance...

Pleased for him. He made a lot of changers for us but he's evidently recovered and is now excelling; good lad

I hadn't realised that he's actually kept clean sheets in 8 of his 10 games for Burnley - and has yet to be on the losing side for them.
  • those clean sheets were also due to a good organised back 4, but take nothing away from NP he is doing well, shows how a club and fans should show faith in a young 'keeper like Dillon Phillips
  • Got Man City in two games... that'll be an excellent test for Nick Pope to show what he can do

One of Pope's strengths is the way he constantly shouts at his defense, and in a very positive way too. This is not something which shows in the stats.
