Missile defence

The Pentagon just announced a successful trial of a new missile defence system. Does anybody know whether this could be a viable option for the UK, cost-wise or risk-wise? How much could we guarantee that no cruise missile could enter our airspace? And should I see this as the initial step to total disarmament?

Has to be 100% successful every time to convince any country to disarm.

Sorry @Leuth - it seems like I have turned your serious thread into one about the Atari 2600.

Labour want everyone to be tolerant of any nuclear attack, it won't break us! and so there's no point in a defense system. Love wins over nuclear warfare

Can't help thinking it might be helpful in a world where Iran and N Korea are developing nuclear weapons (and Russia have them) that an ability to have an offensive threat would be as useful as a defence system.
