Another big blunder by Mr Stroud in tonights game at Newcastle when he gives an indirect free kick for encroachment after Newcastle score a penalty.

Sounds like he has upset a few Geordies.

    He's not all bad then.

In what way was that a blunder?

The penalty was scored so it should have been retaken. The award of an indirect free kick to the defensive team should only have been awarded if the penalty had been missed.

Ha! I didn't see the incident, but that's hilarious!

(Not too much sympathy for the attacking team. Even though the ref gave the decision the wrong way, it's good to see an unfair advantage not being allowed to stand).

    Keith and his team?

Again. Why isn't a miked up 4th official ( a member of his "team") quietly telling him in his earpiece that he isn't right to do this?

Who is to blame that Newcastle didn't score?

    Keith Stroud? Or Dwight Gayle?

That's Keith Stroud demoted to a League One match at the weekend then...

  • As much as I'll complain, just like any other fan, I can live with bad judgement or refs missing incidents.

Not knowing the rules - and three other officials not correcting him - is as bad as it gets. I'd make all of them re qualify (assuming there is some assessment test to get to this level)

Maybe he did but the ref knows better or thinks he knows better.

Amusing, though, that an individual who knew nothing about the sport, reading the third page, would think that the goalkeeper wasn't allowed in the penalty area either!

Had the ball entered the goal by the time Stroud blew for Gayle being in the area?

If so then surely he made the right decision by giving an indirect Free-Kick according to Page.7

No, not knowing that they are Laws not rules is as bad as it gets.

I'll still not back some of our strikers to score.

Yup that he has been... Gillingham v Millwall

Surely he should be struck off rather than demoted?

That's a rule I thought everybody knew. It's not one that has changed recently. Unbelievable he could get that wrong.

That could be the difference between promotion and relegation for some teams at this point of the season.

I always understood the rules to be:

If an attacking player enters the penalty area and the penalty is scored - retake.
If an attacking player enters the penalty area and the penalty is missed - play on.
If a defending player enters the penalty area and the penalty is scored - goal.
If a defending player enters the penalty area and the penalty is missed - retake.

I am guessing he got it wrong too Richard? Seems odd all four of them "forgetting" the laws though...

now then now then ((:>) .. we'll need an ultra slow motion camera and hawk like eyes to sort out that one .. you should be on Stroud's 'defence team' .. but could you defend the indefensible ?

If the referee gives the signal for a penalty kick to be taken and, before the ball is in play, one of
    the following situations occurs:
A team-mate of the player taking the kick infringes the Laws of the Game:
    • The referee allows the kick to proceed.
    • If the ball enters the goal, the kick is retaken.
    • If the ball does not enter the goal, the referee stops play and restarts the match with an indirect free kick, from the place where the infringement occurred, to the defending team.

Seems pretty clear but despite the involvement of the referee, both linesmen, the 4th official and an ipad showing them all the Laws of the game, Stroud still managed to fuck it up and then added insult to injury by playing 3 minutes of injury time despite the penalty incident taking 7 minutes! Unbelievable Jeff!

I've just seen this on the news wtf was Stroud thinking about. We all make mistakes but I'm afraid that was a farcical decision. What if that incident was the difference between promotion and relegation and in respect of the latter people's jobs were on the line.

This doesn't really help the 'Respect' campaign does it. Sorry as someone said above the bloke needs retiring along with the other officials unless he overuled them of course.

How has he not been sacked? He must be the only person in the stadium to not know the rules

Stroud is such a .... {Swear filter} Stroud {/Swear filter} that his ideal refereeing team is probably Me, Myself, and I, with My Shadow as 4th official.

    From the match report:

"Stroud further enraged Newcastle fans by getting in the way of a run by Jonjo Shelvey."

He did this 3 times to us in the Millwall game and even managed to do it to an ex Charlton player.
