Young Kent amateur golfer Tom Sherrard has qualified for the open at Birkdale,he qualified from regional qualifying at Rochester & Cobham coming third and progressed to final qualifying at Southport & Ainsdale winning the event consisting of 90 players who were mostly professionals some playing on the European Tour. There were only 4 places up for grabs,so that was some effort. He plays his golf at Chart Hills. If anyone is going up there for the open on the first couple of days give him some support, nice to see local players qualify. It probably won't be long before he turns pro, very much in the Oliver Fisher mould.

He shot 7 over first round and 1 under second round to stand 6 over par. He's in the hunt for the top amateur silver medal, one shot behind another amateur.Great performance.
