Eddie Heath

I did not know who he was prior to just reading a news article about him being involved in the child abuse allegations within football.

He started at Chelsea. Where he was apparently abusing youngsters.

His last club was working at Charlton.

Who was he?

Sad news.

    According the Telegraph he did

"After leaving Chelsea, Heath joined Millwall before moving to Charlton Athletic. He died of a heart attack in the early 1980s while in his mid fifties."

  • Eddie Marsh on the other hand was up until quite recently at least coaching goalkeepers at Torquay United. I met him whilst on holiday in Dawlish. Very nice man who was happily semi-retired in Devon with his wife and not to be confused with the beast Heath.

Never realised the ex-prime minister Edward (Eddie to his mates) Heath was so multi-talented...
  • Times reporting 'that he suffered a heart attack while putting out the corner flags before a training session with Charlton Athletic.'

My mate, (who was in our youth team at the time) went to his funeral. I remember him telling me at the time that Ray Wilkins was there too and was in bits.

Wilkins speaks very highly of him in the piece I've just read and seems oblivious to any wrongdoing, despite multiple reports from Chelsea and Senrab players, were he also coached with Gradi and Bennell. He went on to work for Charlton, Millwall and Boro after Chelsea.

Reading John Sitton's book at the moment.
He was in the Chelsea youth setup with Heath and speaks highly of him as does Wilkins.

Young Chelsea players were targeted for years by a "prolific and manipulative sexual abuser" who was able to operate "unchallenged", says a damning report.

Evidence from 23 witnesses details how ex-chief scout Eddie Heath, who died in 1983, groomed and abused young boys aged between 10 and 17 in the 1970s.

An external review said some adults at Chelsea must have been aware of Heath's abuse but "turned a blind eye".

In a statement, Chelsea's board apologised "unreservedly".
