Lookman cash to be spent on training ground - Robinson

Karl trying to be postive as always. He got the knock-back in Belgium, has been allowed to re-use the Lookman and Fox wages to bring in four new players, three of whom are inexperienced and largely unproven. Two are loans (short-term). All looks like window-dressing and expectation management to me. We have already been told, repeatedly, that his Munificence is funding the training ground. Now it's the Lookman Memorial Fields to go with the Yann Kermorgant Playing Surface. Massive slice of face-saving for Karl Robinson. We won't beat Millwall today and I fully expect our season to fizzle out well short of the play-offs. It was all very predictable in August when we failed to give Slade a fully competitive squad. This is how RD wants it now. Next season will be no different. Konsa and Aribo will be lined-up for sale and so on until his losses are cut to a level where he can sell de cloob without taking a massive loss.

    Spot on

Can everyone please acknowledge Watt as one of the window's incomings? By ignoring the fact we've got a lavishly talented forward in our playing squad to replace Lookman we're able to claim decisively and falsely that this window is a dead loss so far.
  • So, they're basically admitting that money HAD run on on the Training Ground redevelopment and cessation of work was NOT due to problems with the drainage or whatever pathetic excuse was stuttered by TK at the Bromley Addicks' Q & A .

    What a crock of sh*t !

About right. Work will probably stop again in April and won't resume until Konsa and Aribo are sold in July.

As soon as Konsa and Aribo got the in the team Roly wasn't seriously going to strengthen. KR even said that (maybe in half jest) Roly had been on the phone and we didn't need new midfield with those two.
  • F**K off Roland.

    F**K off now.

And take that f*****g apology of a CEO with you.

We're playing Millwall in 1 hour, pal
  • Really,I didn't know that
  • Note also that Cawley says £8m upfront.

No he chuffing well doesn't. It says £8M guaranteed - nothing about how long a period that will take to dribble in...

In other unsurprising developments: Roly learns that 2 youngsters look decent in two appearances ergo the club has enough midfielders of sufficent stature and experience. And KR ain't getting to buy any more, cos he never was.

Maybe one more in..? Yeah if a deal to get Tex or someone off the payroll can be done.

Charlton ends up shorne of its leading goal scorer and brightest prospect - he isn't replaced - loses one left back who is replaced by someone younger and inexperienced - cover for right back is allowed to leave and replaced by younger and inexperienced - and the manager says the proceeds are going on a project the president had supposedly been committed to for 3 years already but on which progress has been glacially slow - 50 years probably about right.

In short CAFC is no better off - Roly's recouped a chunk off his "investment"
Happy New Year - who's up next? Millwall at The Valley? Fabulous...

  • A question that crosses my mind is this. If a player has the option to sign for 3rd division Charlton with a space age all-singing, all-dancing state of the art training ground in swanky SE London, or Premier league Bournemouth who train behind the bike sheds at the local comp' - which does he tend to choose?

I know it's being used only as an example but Bournemouth have had their own training complex next to Dean Court for a few years now. The school that they used to train at was also about as far away from a comp' as its possible to get too.

    Yours in pedantry,

    BA
I have amended my example - I actually had no idea The Cherries really did once train at a school!
*rushes off to check where WBA train*

Aaah. Thanks for that. I didn't bother to read the Cawley thing. Good spot. Comment, @Henry Irving ?

Ultimately this way Roland does get to keep some of the Lookman cash, as it's funding an asset that will up the purchase price when they sell. But then we will have new owners and a fancy training ground facility, so not exactly bad news.

Correct. I was wrong to say "upfront" but guaranteed me we get the full 8m regardless over the next few seasons.

God I hope that's the case. Same difference in case of a quick sale tho, lookman cash gives club better bank balance which is reflected in selling price.

Perhaps, but does anyone know whether the proceeds go on the club's accounts or on the accounts of Staprix?
  • I do appreciate coaches have to do media work as part of their role and perhaps it isn't fair to pull apart every word KR comes out with. In other circumstances some of the stuff might be better received or even amusing...but jeez he does come out with some utter nonsense.

    Just beat Millwall Karl.

Extrovert scouser pleased to open his trap and put his size 10's in it.

Squirrel face must love him as it keeps that piece of shit away from the flak.

They'll probably waste most of it on consultancy fees.

Karl's 'enthusiasm' is really starting to grate. He needs to moderate his wittering, if he does that it will seem more meaningful

All PR, he knew before he put pen to paper what he was letting himself into.

He gets no sympathy from me, like any future appointment under these clowns.

Quite right - a "forward" with one goal and no assists in 18 matches this season. The match statisticians at OPTA will be wetting themselves at the thought that they might not be able to keep up with Watt.

So, my theory, and I know it is shared by at least one other:

Robinson is on a bonus % for players sold.

Robinson is on a bonus % for number of words spoken at press conferences, which doubles whenever he tries to convince everyone that he meant to come to a club that spends more money on its training ground/player farm than the first team.
  • I know some academy staff used to be on a small bunce of what sales were made from kids who came through , uncle Roly stopped that , to improve moral down there probably !

This is just an excuse as to why we have not bought more players in.

You watch, when someone asks why the training ground is still un the "planning phase" later in the year it will be a different excuse. (Remember how hard it was to get the truth out of Cajones at the Bromley addicks meeting)

Lookman on bench for big game today v City. Will be great to see him get on and show what he can do at this level.
