Don't mind the starting team and formation, but if we are leaving 3 strikers on the bench, then maybe we should have brought Townsend instead of one of them

Rashford is there because he can play both roles.

Not sure how good Russia are, but this is already England's best finals performance since at least 2008. The side looks balanced for a change.

    Just needs a goal.

    I really like the stadium.

When Peter Varney moves us I hope we get one like that.

Vardy for Kane at HT for me. Very disappointed with Kane so far.

very good first half. Tactics sound, system working, pattern of play working, defence looking comfortable. Rooney pulling the strings in midfield. Just lacking the final pass or cross.

Kane needs to get out of first gear

Not winning but hugely impressed with that half. Lallana and Alli playing very well in pockets and difficult to pick up, Rooney is looking a real class act, and the full backs give us fantastic attacking options.

Russia have offered nothing. Hope we come out swinging in the second half. If we score early it's ours for the taking

Anyone else think this is nicely set up for a last minute Russian winner?

Or have I spent too long watching Charlton!?

Kane's corners are OK. We've had a couple chances off them so far.
  • Definitely wouldn't take Kane off myself. Not sure how Sterling warrants a start though. The goal is coming (famous last words)!

We've had loads of corners, at least two have gone straight over everyone.

Thought we were excellent first half. Still don't get Kane on set pieces but that was quality, quick attacking football.

Still shitting myself like when Charlton on the odd occasion pissed a game and you just knew we'd get a goal against us.

Large vodka and Coke for half time.

great half but a little frustrating that we can't get a foot on the end of any of the crosses. rooney showing why he's there and the 2 full backs having great games. lallana will surely manage to miss the keeper at some point

Lallana and the full backs have been really good.

Get 1 and we'll get 4. If we are still 0-0 on 80mins you know Russia will nick it.

Surely you want your centre forward in the box? Imagine Shearer or Heskey taking corners!

What with the Russian doping scandal in Athletics is anyone wondering if there is a strong magnet in the ball and in Akinfeev's jersey?

Every chance is going to him with ease... i.e. One punch was so calmly done he looked like he was debating what to have for breakfast

  • Hopefully this is the last game Kane takes corners. It defies belief that our centre forward is taking them whilst 5ft 7 Sterling waits in the middle.

Playing really well though, the concern is we haven't turned our domination into goals and that Russia can surely only improve in the 2nd half.

Bit of a yawn fest so far. England playing ok but Russia look shit and the worst in the group on that first half. If England can't beat this lot then doubt they will escape the group.

Very good performance so far. Just hope we can grab an early goal second half or I'll fear getting caught by a Russki sucker punch late on.

    .

Well up for it. Hope we can give reason to be a little optimistic for the rest of the competition.

Reports are that Vardy will drop to the bench, Sterling and Lallana to start and Rooney in midfield.

I guess it'll be something like this:

    Kane
    Sterling Alli Lallana
    Rooney Dier

Or probably more of a 433 with Alli deeper. Would perfer Hendo or Wilshere (Drinkwater) in for Rooney if he is playing that role but Woy will always fin a way to fit him in.

    Couldn't agree more.

Danny Murphy called playing Rooney in midfield 'a brave choice' earlier, whereas I think it's the opposite - not being brave enough to drop him given Alli and Kane are better options.

I'd much rather have Wilshere than Rooney, even if it's only for an hour.
Must admit that Rooney had a good half, played well.

Sterling is the only weak link for me so far.

Weve been impressive with everything coming via Lallana
  • Superb half. Vardy will tear them apart.

You genuinely thought that was boring Large?!

I was expecting nothing but thought we were exciting.

Smalling getting to the headers and Rooney or Alli picking up the loose ball, doesn't really matter if he is taking as them we have plenty of quality to score.
