There is of course some question over the actual timing of these goals but the fastest by a West Ham player is nine seconds (Ken Bainbridge on 27th August 1949 against Barnsley). The fastest from an opponent was also timed at nine seconds and that was Jim Melrose of Charlton In the game on 25th October 1986. We will never know but I believe that the Melrose goal was probably the fastest as I have read reports on the Bainbridge goal that have timed it as 11 seconds.

Great memories from them 18 months. We had a relatively successful team and that certainly helped with the fear the return might not have happened. Gritty and Curbs went a long way to saving the club during this time1

Upton Park was always an atmospheric ground, even with the tiddly little crowds we used to get over there. The one full season we played there when we nearly made the playoffs was great fun, old Carlo was a monster that year.

0-1 defeat to Tranmere 2nd from last game of the season done us. John Aldridge scored with a scuffed shot. Bearing in mind that the Saturday was red-hot and we really only had 12/13 outfield players that season, fatigue took over against Tranmere and we were unable to follow up what was a magnificent performance on the Saturday in front of the Leicester hordes.

I went to Selhurt and Upton Park but have blocked out most of the Upton Park years for some reason. My main memory is of racist West Ham fans from when I have been on non-Charlton trips there. Shame that the club is not being closed down with the ground.0

Almost ashamed to admit it but the Upton parks days were probably my best memories of being a Charlton fan (baring the obvious games after that period) Used to go home and away without fail those days - and enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, the return to The Valley was fantastic, but I guess in those days we had a small but solid bunch of hardcore fans, and football was just so much better.
I personally also had a lot of great interaction with the players and was lucky enough to spend a lot of time at the training ground - think Alan Pardew used to fancy me.2 -
I was a season ticket holder there and at Selhurst and remember how easy it was to go there instead of Croydon, but was really pleased when the club came home0

Was at the Leicester game too, great atmosphere and it was my birthday! Also remember very well the mid week against Sunderland 1-1at half time and 10mins into 2nd half Gabbiadini hat trick.0

Presenting the Medway branch supporters club POTY award to Carl Leaburn. Several cracking games there. One thing sticks in the memory was a cup game (think against Fulham) and a ball looping into the net over a grounded Jim Stannard. Always recall someone shouting out "watch the topspin Jim" which ended up with him pissing himself laughing as he picked the ball out if the net1

David Whyte v Leciester, Webbo last minute volley against Bristol City. Gabiadini hat trick for Sunderland. Flicking the v's at David Speedie in full view of the London Tonight cameras, Jon Hendry v Millwall, that drab fa cup 0-0 against 'giants' Sheffield United (felt like a big deal back then). And definitely Barness lobbing Bolder on a cold Tuesdsy night against Grimsby. Strangely happy memories.1
