January Transfer window will explain all
RD must act decisively in January - if he doesn't then it will be a clear signal that he has no ambition for Charlton and should go.

Hopefully he is going to buy some players than can play for a whole match and don't give up if a goal is scored against them at the 44 minute mark......4
-
Only signings will be Roger Johnson and Chris Eagles. Well it worked last season5
-
Watt sold - undisclosed fee.
Fringe players out on loan
Free agents and old men to come in on loan.0 -
At our level the January transfer window is a bit of a myth. The only real possibilities are out of contract players and then some short term loans. Hope I am wrong ... but .......5
-
Not sure how you persuade any decent players to join though...
- We are bottom 3
- atmosphere is bad and fans are leaving in droves.
- bad payers
- limited manager
- inexperienced coaching staff
- demoralised players and not convinced a lot of team spirit
Hope I am proved wrong but if I was a player with choices then CAFC in Jan would not be the one I made unless the manager was changed to someone inspirational, the coaching staff was improved AND the club paid above the going rate to entice me.

Let's be honest any players coming in will be funded by sales first.
We already know Watt is going for 1m so any players comin in will be out of this plus his wages0 -
Free agents and old men to come in on loan.
The club do not like old men or women. (KM has stated that).0 -
If anybody comes in it will be more dross from the minor leagues of the continent.1
-
Watt out, Bergdich out, use money to sign 4 free transfers, with any luck 1 or 2 may be OK. Will not buy anyone in January, we are desperate so the transfer fees will be high, certainly no one decent from this country, we may get someone we have never heard of from abroad and be told he cost over £1m.0
-
When the window closes, we will be another 3 or 4 matches closer to L1.
The "Waffles" are going to be spinning us all sorts of teasers (like the Chelsea doctor woman) as we go through the month of Jan, but I don't expect anything other than a couple of third rate foreign players who fail to make a difference (like Bergdich).
If they are going to do anything useful, they need to have done all the preparation by now - and given that Chris Parkes had to cancel an engagement due to ill health last week - I wouldn't bet that we have lined any players up at all.
Come 1st of Feb - Fraye will be announced as permanent (ha ha) manager to the end of the season, and we will have to like it or lump it.
When we get to June - we will need a "Chris Powell" type manager and a 20 player clear-out if we are to avoid falling off the football coupon altogether.
Just my view of course, but I have been suspicious of the owner from the start, and everyday that passes just makes me distrust his intentions more and more.

On another thread, Scabbyhorse saying Dervite and Kermorgant will be back in January.
If only.3 -
If that were to happen then they are basically admitting the squad was better when they took over and "progress" is trying to patch it up to get it back how it was. Will never happen.Fortune 82nd Minute said:On another thread, Scabbyhorse saying Dervite and Kermorgant will be back in January.

Based on this summer's recruitment campaign, and the amount of crap we have had in the last 2 years, I don't trust anyone they bring in. Even our so called better signings haven't lasted long if you take Watt as an example. This window will be yet another display of their incompetence3

and old men to come in on loan
I'm sorry I'm not available now or in the future!!8 -
Phil Chapple is no longer there to source any decent players.8

Far from wishing to sound negative should this happen, would their addition to the squad solve our problems under an ill experienced manager whether it be KF or A N Other ?Fortune 82nd Minute said:On another thread, Scabbyhorse saying Dervite and Kermorgant will be back in January.

Or would they join the ranks of the disillusioned players we have already ?

The latter I should imagine Fanny.Fanny Fanackapan said:

Seems like every transfer window under RD is meant to have been the important one that answers all our questions but they never end well.4
-
The window will not tell us anything we don't know and the Trust and others are mistaken to wait until it is over.
Sure, they will sign some much needed players. But nothing will have changed.
They may even appoint another coach but nothing will have changed.
It might even be enough to keep us up but nothing will have changed.
Because they will be more short term signings. And come next summer the squad will again be overhauled. Nothing will have changed.
The squad will again be too small, too inexperienced, too reliant on the academy. Nothing will have changed.
The coach will not have control over which players sign. Nothing will have changed.
The budget will still be set too low to make us competitive outside of the bottom 6 of this division, if we are still in this division. Nothing will have changed.
The CEO and her stooge will still mismanage the club. Nothing will have changed.
The owner will still believe he can make his mad experiment work despite all the available evidence. Nothing will have changed.68 -

The only thing that will have changed, Henry is the size of the home support at The Valley.
The Black & White campaign was an admirable start towards showing the current regime that a decent percentage of fans are extremely unhappy with the status quo.
But we need to engage with more than that percentage of supporters & raise the stakes somehow.
Not sure whether I could agree to boycott a game, unless 99% of Addicks currently attending, would do likewise and I believe you feel the same.

I don't think it is unreasonable now to seriously question either the competence or the mental health of our owner. He purchased a London Club with obvious potential, given investment to make the one step up to the Premiership and its £120 million a season. His next task was to appoint a CEO capable of running the Club, and assisting him to achieve his ambitions. He decided upon a young person with absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of football, and as far as I can see no experience of running a Business let alone a multi million pound Business in a foreign country. Next we were awarded a series of unknown Head Coaches, who with the exception of Riga would be more suited to driving a coach.
Now he is looking at a Club in chaos, supporters leaving in droves, players dropping like flies, heading fo the lower leagues and oblivion, whilst a good number of well qualified Championship Managers are kicking their heels at home.
Something stinks here, has Roland got a secret agenda ? We already have Katrien being called Pinocchio, is Roland's new name about to be Rasputin ? I don't trust either of them, and probably never will. The sooner we see the back of them, the better.22 -
A major problem now and more so in future with the 'transfer windows' so far as I can see is that as more and more foreigners come into the PL and FL, there are fewer and fewer experienced, good quality English/British professionals coming onto the market. Many have earned well for years and are looking more for a quiet life in 'semi retirement'. Lots of average and mediocre footballers will be available, few who can or could make a big difference. The Roger Johnsons of the world can go to the USA or Thailand, India, Australia, lots of places where the demands are less, the wages as good or better and they can live abroad for a while experiencing the good life whilst boosting their pension funds.
So, the few men of quality will be in big demand and will go to the QPRs, the Middlesbroughs, the Brightons of this world where the owners are happy to shell out big bucks for short term contracts to either boost promotion prospects or in the hopes of avoiding relegation.
Many of the foreigners playing over here will return home to their national leagues having made enough money in England to set them up for life. A parsimonious, not very prosperous, increasingly unfashionable club such as ours will struggle to sign quality playing staff in such an environment

Whatever happens in January will merely be papering over the cracks, and I'm not so sure we can find paper big enough to cover the casms we have forming.2
