Ha, was one of the new trains with no toilets. Was considering my options and if it went on much longer I was going to search out a bottle and tie my suit jacket around my waist !Addick Addict said:

As a father whose son works for Network Rail on track and who will be working over Xmas and New Year because doing it then, causes the
least disruption to the travelling public. Half the City will be shut down for a nice weeks holiday. When else would those that are complaining suggest the work be done?.0 -

i.e. close London Bridge / Cannon Street but keep trains running to Waterloo East / Charing Cross (or visa versa)2 -

I think that's the thing that really sticks in the craw, they close all the major stations and if that's your usual route then its hard luck, they still want full price for the ticket. If they gave people a reasonable discount when they close stations then there'd be fewer complaints I bet.4

But shutting London Bridge is a flipping nightmare. It's not only the City workers that have to go to work to keep the country ticking over that will be affected but all the families that are visiting family in South East London and who want to visit London whilst here and all those people that have to go to Guys and St Thomas' for their lovely daily dose of chemo and radiotherapy.

Its not just as simple as closing parts of the line down and keeping others open.
You need to be able to ensure a safety margin for staff woking on the track with things such as third rail isolation, then you need to consider where are the engineers trains going to go etc.
also, there might be multiple locations where work is being carried out, each needing its own engineers trains and wagons, heavy on track machinery as examples.
During the Christmas/New Year period, you would be surprised how the numbers drop off in the "rush hour" and most people outside of that time dont really care where they get off, as long as its in London and they can get the tube.0 -
People would be a lot more understanding if the rail network and providers weren't money grabbing incompetent wankers throughout the rest of the year.14

Beautiful journey this am, I understand it's due to a sick passenger which is unfortunate.
But I know what we should do because the Woolwich line is extra crowded today due to the dlr strike we shall make it even more pleasurable for you mugs and ramp the heating up so you can all boil while you are cramped on and stationery for 25 mins outside London Bridge.

You can better your bottom dollar the person I work with will be moaning good style about it to the point she will probably refuse to come in and then bang goes my break down by the seaside. And another thing... someone's suggested the person taken ill on board at London Bridge was probably caused by overcrowding and overheating! Well they are just guessing there but I would be very interested to know if it was part of the problem.0

Wouldn't be the first time I've seen people faint due to being overcrowded and overheated. Having the heating switched to full blast is a complete pain in the arse on all transport. I'm sure it not only causes so many people falling ill during a journey, but also spreads coughs/flu etc as well. I'm sure they just do it for a laugh sometimes!
Fortunate to get a lift in to Canary Wharf this morning. Despite the traffic, it's always nicer sitting in a comfy, non-boiling, car and being delivered direct to the office 0 -
