    http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/soccer/underwood-s-smile-and-love-of-soccer-carry-on/article_d7f9c603-d116-54f3-9e0a-5cfbd460e36a.html

Adorned in Charlton Athletic FC gear, members of the extended Underwood family fondly remembered the joy they shared with their loved one.

Charlton Athletic FC, the soccer team from southeast London, is a family favorite, and Peter Underwood cheered as hard as anyone.

    ....

Current and former NU players entered together, each carrying a rose for their assistant coach.

Underwood's contributions to Lincoln and the surrounding communities will be felt for years.

He served as head coach at Norris High School and coached in the Capital Soccer Association before becoming a full-time paid assistant under Walker.

Among those influenced by Underwood was Samantha Areman, a former player at both Norris and Nebraska.

"Peter was one of the greatest men that I have known in my life and one of my biggest role models," Areman told the group. "He cared about us, not only as soccer players, but more importantly as individuals."

Every picture shown had Underwood with a smile on his face.

    ......

As the near hour-long ceremony came to a close, many in attendance turned to one another and shared an encounter they had with Underwood.

"Peter left a legacy on Nebraska soccer and we will never, ever forget what he did for us," Areman said.

Thanks CPA. I've been following all the news reports and comments on Twitter. He really does sound like a special young man.

A son that any man would be proud to call a son. Bloody terrible it really is.

So, so sad for his family and everyone that his coaching touched in his all too short a life. I don't know Peter but he sounds a credit to his family and all that knew him. My heart felt sympathies to his wife and children especially. RIP fellow addick.

So sad and such a waste of an honest caring individual.

    RIP
  • A tragic story and close to home in a sense. Makes you well up reading it and I didn't even know the guy. The good die young they say.
I guess his work and character will touch lives for years to come.
    RIP.

I hope this is not out of line, but as we look forward to a fresh new season I have taken the liberty of attending to some unfinished business.

I have arranged for a floral tribute to be placed in the memorial garden at The Valley. Message reads:

    Peter Underwood
To honour the memory of a very special person and a true Addick, with deepest respects from all Charlton fans. His wonderful life was cut so tragically short whilst still in its fullest flood but Peter's spirit lives on - no finer legacy ....

    R.I.P.

My apologies if anyone objects, but I thought it right to remember one of our own at The Valley.

    That's a lovely gesture GHF.

My only knowledge of this terrible affair is this discussion, and so I hope that perhaps a kind reader will let Peter's family know.

The flowers have been promised for delivery tomorrow morning (Fri 7th).

Amongst Charlton fans there are no strangers, only friends: we are many but we are ONE.
