Two world class players. Andy Murray is the best of the rest by a bit of a margin in the singles at the moment (after Novak and Roger) but Jamie Murray is also one of the best doubles players in the world. If we can just generate another top 30 singles player who can be relied upon to make a proper game of the non-Murray rubbers we could even stand a chance of winning it.killerandflash said:Great atmosphere there, it's amazing how one world class player can take you so far in the Davis cup, and if we win tomorrow we have a home tie in the semis too

Kazakhstan / Australia / Belgium / Canada are the other teams left in the competition, we stand a very good chance of winning the Davis Cup at the moment if we can get to the Semis0
-
Home to Kaz/Aus if we win apparently.0

Canada are out. Belgium v Argentina is one semi final.
If we win we play Kazakhstan or Australia. Kazakhs are 2-1 up0 -

No Belgians and Kazahks in the top 100.0 -
So really if we make the Semis it can almost becomes ours to lose, though a lot hinges on Andy's form / fitness0
-
I'd expect Murray to win all of his singles matches that he takes part in from this point.
That means progressing tomorrow. As well as scoring us at least two points in the semi final and final if we do progress.
It's looking good but let's not get carried away, if we can avoid it. :-)1 - Sponsored links:

One match at a time!
Simon / Gasquet / Monfils are all decent players and Andy had a nasty tumble during that victory today.
He SHOULD be OK but we are Charlton fans.
Let's not get too optimistic too soon.1 -
Will the French fans start accusing us of all sorts if we win.. (like the cycling)?
I notice the final is quite late in the year so IF we reach that far its a good job there is a roof at Wimbledon then!
Other semi is Belgium v Argentina..1 -
Fair point, though men's doubles positions are slightly misleading in that none of the best singles players play men's doubles due to the workload. If Andy played more doubles, he'd probably be a better doubles player than Jamie.Exiled_Addick said:

France have a ridiculous number of really good players to chose, but it seems that it's more beneficial to have 1 great player than 6 very good players...0 -
This theory doesn't explain why Serbia and Switzerland are out.killerandflash said:

Switzerland won it last year but were knocked out this year when both Federer and Wawrinka opted against playing0
-
And Djokovic not playing in Serbia's current match this weekend against Argentina, which they lost 3-0...
Australia have beaten Kazakhstan, Hewitt winning the final rubber!0 -
Simon already a break up.
Early days still but Murray looks out of sorts to me.
I can see him losing this.0 -
French crowd are noisy. Murray currently looking a bit flat. He lost a set other day , he can still pick things up. Murray lost first set just. At least he is making a little bit of a fight of it on Simon's service games. Last 2 Simon's games to deuce.0
-
Great tennis this. Murray digging deep again there in the second set, looked absolutely knackered.
Hates Britain though.3 -
One set all and a break up in the third0

Top players are not easily beaten. Murray showing some real character with some terreffic rallies. Getting Gilles Simon to run about all over the court now.0
-
I guess this is the downside of playing Andy in the doubles as well. Simon has had an extra day's restExiled_Addick said:Great tennis this. Murray digging deep again there in the second set, looked absolutely knackered.

Murray wins the 3rd set, one more set and it's a home semi against Australia!0
-
Simon injured in the 4th but Murray had him beat. Great gritty performance from Murray.
Australia in the Semi Finals at home on hard indoor court in Birmingham in September.0 -
Are you sure it's in Brum? Reason I ask is they said it might be Scotland in the commentary, but I'll be back in the UK and near Brum that weekend so will try and get tickets if it is.vff said:Simon injured in the 4th but Murray had him beat. Great gritty performance from Murray.

Indor in Birmingham??? Who made that decision?0
-
Suggested by that commentator ass, Castle. Can't complain if they wanted to play it in Scotland.0
-
What a performance by Andy Murray. Can he play cricket as well?1
-
Think they want to play on hard courts as its during the hard court season, don't think there are any decent sized outdoor hard court stadiums in the UK.Callumcafc said:Indor in Birmingham??? Who made that decision?

Needs to hold at least 8,000 - Glasgow is 7,700 capacity frustratingly so will probably be Birmingham.Exiled_Addick said:
