John Noakes

I guess any time you see a thread including the name of a mid-1970s BBC TV presenter, you'd be forgiven for thinking one of two things; police investigation or RIP time.

But in the case of John Noakes, it's more surprising. He's gone missing.

I hope for his family's sake, he's found, safe and well, soon.

Well, I thought for a brief second that this was'nt going to be bad news after all, but it turns out to be pretty grim anyway. Hope they find him safe and well.

I hope the people who thought it was funny, never have a relative with this awful affliction

Good news, that sounded nasty. Mind you, did'nt know he had Alzheimers, so it's still a bit of a downer to be honest.

Glad they found him, reminded of the Barron Knights song 'Get Down Shep'...... "John could never be alone no matter where he went, cos Shep would have a sniff around and soon pick up his scent".

I lost my beloved wife 3 years ago with dementia. Please do not demean what this awful affliction is. to see the light go out in their eyes is just harrowing.

Ouch! The precious brigade are out in force on CL.

For the record and just in case it needs clarifying. I am, 1) glad John Noakes is found safe and 2) Dementia of any form at any age is a terrible disease.

I detect some over-reaction on this thread.

The people who were making light-hearted comments were doing just that, making light-hearted comments.

No one was being nasty about John Noakes or his devastating condition. I am sure that they would also want to wish him well.

Let us not get too precious about these things.

I've recently had to put mother into care so know how cruel it can be .It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do But I don't mind jokes about it ,it helps.I recently heard her chatting up one of the male residents, she said " do I come here often" .I think it's called black humour
