Great strike but bizarrely I think I like Zamora's goal from yesterday better2

Excellent report. Really sums up the enormity of this rare goal.Richard J said:Interesting article about the goal by Will Unwin from ITV Sport.

The Figueroa free kick was stunning, for sure but Adam, to score that from a simple look up when the ball is in play and he's hit it early right on his laces and slightly across the ball to avoid curve, before being closed down - one in a million.0 -
That would have been some take by Crouch as he was sitting on the subs bench at the time.happyvalley said:Typical Stoke long ball, he was hoping Crouch would get on the end of it.

Would also have been one helluva misshit to have found Crouch with that ball.

I think everyone agree it was a wonderful instinctive effort (well almost everyone apart from Michael Owen it seems)0

Can't stand Adam. Horrible bloke, horrible player. Amazing finish regardless, but it was only a few minutes earlier he was drawing blood from Fabregas's face, which is as typical of him as anything else he did.1
-
He was trying to win the crossbar challenge and failed.1

If someone like Rooney had done it just imagine the commentators they would be wanting his babies3

Zamora's marginally better for me. Defoe's today not bad also!! How pants were Spurs today by the way? Talk about heads down attitude and not giving a monkey's uncle!! Embarrassing!! The Emirates shadow over them grows ever bigger.0

Just quoted what Jamie Redknapp said at half time. I thought it looked longer myself but in future will remember to get my imperial to metric conversion kit out of my pencil case and calculate the distance more accurately for youChizz said:
I'd guess a bit further than that. The pitch at Stamford Bridge is 112.6 yards. So the half-way line is 56.3 yards. And he looked to to have hit it close to being in line with the edge of the centre circle, meaning almost an extra 10 yards. I reckon that's all of 65 yards.cafc999 said:Fantastic strike
59 yards according to sky
(Although, if Sky is saying 59 METRES, then I would agree with that!)
;-)
Another way of working it out is by using different shades of grass going across the width of the pitch. Assuming they are equal, you can see one stripe is the 6-yard box, and three stripes make the penalty area (so 18 yards). There are 9 of these stripes in half the pitch, making 54 yards. He strikes it a 'stripe' and a half into his own half, giving around 64-65 yards.

Haha, I've just seen what I wrote - meant to say 62-63 yards, but I must have been looking at the numbers above when I was typing?!North Lower Neil said:

Saw Charlie Adam's and Rooney's goals made the back pages. But what about Zamora's. Surely his was better than Rooney's. Ok not saying Rooney's wasn't great, just saying that it is the typical favouritism which makes me dislike the uk media.0

Zamora's goal was immense, as you say but please see my link two posts ago to see the public vote - quite surprising Zamora only got just 5%. Seems the real pro's and former players recognised its technical brillliance more than Joe Public!dizzee said:Saw Charlie Adam's and Rooney's goals made the back pages. But what about Zamora's. I never really understand these comments. Anytime someone who isn't a world star scores a great goal, a handful of people say "Bah, if X had scored that then X would be going X!" - but to be clear, everyone IS saying a lot of nice things about Adam. So what's your point?cafcinperth said:If someone like Rooney had done it just imagine the commentators they would be wanting his babies

It's a great goal, it's got a huge element of luck with it, same as becks, Jonjos and anyone else who bangs one in from that distance,
I'd say that rooneys, defoe and zamora were all as good for their own individual merits
Goals from distance always rate highly but are never goal of the season due to the huge luck element involved and 9x out of 10 have keeper error as well
The goal crouch scored for Stoke the other year was imo the best prem goal I have seen, followed by rooney over head in the derby and Bergkamp at Newcastle0 -
When you hear how often he tries these long range efforts you'll see that it wasn't lucky as he meant it.nth london addick said:It's a great goal, it's got a huge element of luck with it, same as becks, Jonjos and anyone else who bangs one in from that distance,

I would agree with you on your top three Prem goals - Crouch vs Man City, Rooney vs Man City and Bergkamp vs Newcastle - Bergkamp being my favourite because he was The Master and you were always in awe of - but not surprised by - his next piece of magic as and when it happened.
It's all a matter of opinion, of course and sadly for Adam, that's probably all people will remember him for after he's finished whereas the others, especially Rooney & Bergkamp, had so much more in their lockers.
One thing's for sure and that is Charlie Adam has a sweet left boot and can hit a ball as hard and as truly as most - makes me think of our own JBG and what is yet to come!0 - Sponsored links:

Nice goal from the 'Ankle Assassin' but Defoe's goal was better for me considering it was on his weaker left foot which he usually only uses to stand on!0

Not a fan of Defoe as he walked out on CAFC but it was a good strike, for sure.JohnBoyUK said:Nice goal from the 'Ankle Assassin' but Defoe's goal was better for me considering it was on his weaker left foot which he usually only uses to stand on!
Of course, Adam will also be remembered as the 'Ankle Assassin' - nice one.

Adam's best of the weekend (probably biased as I was there) But i've never seen anything quite like it and dont expect to see anything like that at the Valley anytime soon whereas Defoe's is the type of the goal that will more likely come off in our division.1

I didn't say he was lucky far from it the technique and ability needs, to be there in the first place, what you do need is an element of luck, poor keeping position, no cross wind that this is the 1 chance in a hundred that will go in,
I would not disregard the ability and skill required, just that there needs to be other factors for it to go in, where the other goals are more about the skill set of the individual more than an element of luck combined1
