Just seen he has passed away aged 61 after a battle with Cancer

He won his only WSOP Bracelet in 1997 and had Devilfish engraved on it

    Cancer. Told it was terminal a couple of months ago apparently, but read an interview with him last week where he said he was going to beat it. Optimist right to the end.

    Great player, and played poker for donkeys years before the tv boom

    Played in a tournament with him at the Vic a few years ago - I never got to a table with him but just knowing he was in the room crested a buzz

    The TV boom seemed to coincide with his career going downhill. Poker has lost one of it's characters. RIP Devilfish.

    Someone I only ever met in passing but with who I had a large number of mutual friends so I've been hearing a lot of great stories over the last few days. A proper character who had a huge part in the explosion of the game in the UK. RIP Dave
