Didn't rate him when he arrived but his hard work and solid filling in at right back won me over. Won't be offered a new contract to make room for loic nego0

Weird thing to say. The fact that we survived without Solly last season is great credit to Wilson. I like him at right midfield because he offers defensive support as well as goals when he's on form, which generally suits our set-up, but he's a very decent full backTo_Be_Franck said:
I can actually never take anything you say seriously again if that is a genuine commentCallumcafc said:I think he's a more effective full back than he is a winger. No idea where the opposing sentiment has come from.
Don't forget he played MULTIPLE games at full back last season while Solly spent most of it on the sidelines and he almost won POTY.
We have problems far bigger than RD if our fans think LW is good enough!Callumcafc said:
It was very genuine. Solly only played 11 games last season but the rest of them, Wilson filled in at right back (apart from one game where I think Morrison struggled with it).To_Be_Franck said:

According to last season's statbank, Wilson averaged 6.41 for the season (39 apps). For comparison, Hamer got 6.46 in 32 apps and Jackson got 6.22 in 35 apps.
As I have said many times on other threads, Wilson's marks would not have been so high each game if he didn't have that stupid song, and / or he was a network player
He played right back for most of last season and did a good job. Never a Premier League player, clearly not as good as Solly. He's not a technical or creative player and he's someone that makes the most of what he's got. Nothing wrong with having a few players like that in this league.
What is it about his game that is apparently so poor he can't do a job for a lower Championship side?

Lack of passing ability

To be fair, he is not the only one in the team5 -
seem to remember some people (and some of the same people) saying the same about Morrison not being up to it, limited, no great loss, etc etc.
But he's doing well in a championship team above us in the league.
Maybe it isn't the players that are the problem.2 -

Do you know that for a fact? If it's true then why is he even on the bench?oohaahmortimer said:He has already been told he can leave
maybe because the squad is so thin that there is no one else?

a lot of players know around this time whether or not they will be getting a new contract. If you didn't select these players in the squad then you could lose picking four, five, six players.
I'll be sad to see Lawrie go, decent player and would be effective in front of Solly, got bags of energy, willing to get up and down, does a good job for the team.2 -

Compared to Solly and JBG he's not as strong in those areas (though clearly bette than JBG defensively) but he's a squad player and if he was as bad in those areas as you say I think having him at right back would have been a much bigger problem than it was last season.2 -
Wilson is arguably the quickest player we have which admittedly does not say much.0

Antonio's goal against us showed the opposite of that. Caught out again, didn't anticipate the ball going over him, got run ragged and bang. Goal. One good game doesn't mean the above was wrong, at some point every player has a decent game. I'm sure even Djemba Djemba had one good game.Garrymanilow said:

I prefer to judge Wilson on his 2 and a half seasons here. For me he's been a decent squad player as part of a bottom half to mid table Championship side.
Not someone that will help us push on but he's played a part in us staying in this league.14 -

Wilson was a decent player for us last season, worked like a trojan up and down the right touchline whether RB or right mid. That's why he nearly won POTY. This season Bob treated him like a dog, and it's no wonder his morale is low and his form has suffered.6

Don't forget he played MULTIPLE games at full back last season while Solly spent most of it on the sidelines and he almost won POTY.
Lack of touch
Lack of passing ability
Lack of anticipation
Lack of a football brain
Lack of positioning sense
Flat footed
Bottles tackles
Stupid song
To be fair, he is not the only one in the teamhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liZBJZ8RVaA
I prefer to judge Wilson on his 2 and a half seasons here. For me he's been a decent squad player as part of a bottom half to mid table Championship side.
Not someone that will help us push on but he's played a part in us staying in this league.
Just like the 2012-14 squad he has played his part in keeping us in the Championship. If he and Church exit this summer then this appears part of a rational plan to push the points target up from 62 this season to 75 next time.
To get 75 takes quality and consistency.
Back in the 90s Curbishley and Murray pursued a 5 in5 out policy year after year and correct decisions every summer is what led to 1998 success.
Right now we have a considerably richer owner who could make a real difference with 5 in 5 out.
So thank you Lawrie for your contribution.1 -
I wasn't saying it did, but you're right...............so lucky he's only had the one bad game hey, oh sorry I mean half as he was hauled off.ForeverAddickted said:
But one bad game doesnt mean that the above was right though...Its_Hamer_Time said:
Antonio's goal against us showed the opposite of that. Caught out again, didn't anticipate the ball going over him, got run ragged and bang. Goal. One good game doesn't mean the above was wrong, at some point every player has a decent game. I'm sure even Djemba Djemba had one good game.Garrymanilow said:

Other than maybe a few it has nothing at all to do with having a song or not being a network player, just a lot of people that have a different opinion to you.To_Be_Franck said:
I think that we must be talking about a different Lawrie Wilson! Offers good defensive support as a RM when he EVENTUALLY gets back. And as for very decent full back?! Do me a favour!!Garrymanilow said:
Weird thing to say. The fact that we survived without Solly last season is great credit to Wilson. I like him at right midfield because he offers defensive support as well as goals when he's on form, which generally suits our set-up, but he's a very decent full backTo_Be_Franck said:
I can actually never take anything you say seriously again if that is a genuine commentCallumcafc said:I think he's a more effective full back than he is a winger. No idea where the opposing sentiment has come from.

We have problems far bigger than RD if our fans think LW is good enough!Callumcafc said:
It was very genuine. Solly only played 11 games last season but the rest of them, Wilson filled in at right back (apart from one game where I think Morrison struggled with it).To_Be_Franck said:

He has been on trial there for about a month now I think. Some Bolton fan on Twitter was asking me about him. Would be a good move for him as it goes, considering I worried he might have to drop down to League One.0
