It may also throw further light on the difficult position of Katrien Meire.

When he says "When two days before your resignation they guarantee you that you can stay, it is strange that you get sacked on Sunday." it's possible that as well as giving a positive assessment of progress so far in the Brighton programme she may have told Peteers his job was safe - only for Duchatelet to sack him after the loss?

Deja vu. Mark Hulyer gave Andy Nelson a vote of confidence on the Saturday, took him for a meal at the Bull's Head Chislehurst on Sunday and sacked him on the Monday!

That was Ken Craggs not Andy Nelson surely

It was indeed, as AB has pointed out.

He certainly wasn't popular by me or most of the people I talk to. His treatment of Morrison, his obvious arguments with Jackson and Buyens, the detiorating team spirit, failure to defend Hi failure to have much in the way of tactics except slow sideways passing.
Some many of the things that have come sense against all ring true. If it was Damion who spoke to the Board, thank goodness!

maybe they were not the ones signing his name, but a significant number were.

There wasn't much else to sing about. A bit like the fans singing "Super Alan Pardew" shortly before it changed to "We want Pardew Out".

Yes, my point was that the Peeters out chants hadn't really happened yet but were not far off!

I've heard that RD couldn't decide between BP and GL at the beginning of the season and so 2 things occurred.

    1. Bob and Guy agreed that the if the other manager hadn't got 40 Points by January, the other would take over.

    2. Bob and Guy were forced into an arm wrestle by RD, and Bob being the bigger guy won convincingly. (Random fact RD used to get JCVD to win all his business deals by arm wrestling the other companies elected champions until he lost to this guy).

    image

which forced JCVD to go into making bad Budweiser adverts

Wow, this guy looks as if he spends too much time watching Babestation!

Can I summarise, Roland has saved us financially. Apart from that the lot of them seem to be a pain in the ass. I look at Joe Gomez and see a great talent for the future. I suspect that Roland looks at him and sees £ signs.

Yeah, but at least you can be sure Roland will get as many of those pounds as possible for him. Under the previous regime we'd have probably sold him to the first bidder for a fraction of the price...........

When you've got a bunch of players who know they can leave at the end of the season they are never going to care. A bit like if you were leaving your job in a few months, do you really care about your performance and the effect it has on the company you're working for. That's why the loan system doesn't work unless they are young and hungry. Also players like TBH and Bikey know they could leave tomorrow and find another club. These players won't care unless they are integrated into the club, like the team under Powell were. Yes they weren't the most talented, but they worked their a**** off for Charlton on the pitch.

I think it depends on the individual attitude of the player. Hamer, Morrison, Dervite and Poyet were all out of contract at the end of last season and you couldn't fault their effort.

Just posted this on the Watford Post Match views but perhaps just as poignant on this thread.

'If only we had a Manager who could hand pick his players with the right values and understanding of what this club is all about. One who would put his arm around them make them feel part of the family that is Charlton Athletic.'

Invite them to the Valley with their other half for lunch to savour the atmosphere and history of the place and get them to buy into the whole ethos of togetherness from the outset...............Oh hang on a minute we had one of those, wonder what he is doing now. :-0

Can anyone tell me if Belgiums are anything like the Dutch. In the sense they always blow up and loss it in the changing room at tournaments.the times Holland have looked good at competitions only to fall apart from arguments and disputes.think that's what we've got at moment.we played every team in this league a few weeks back and didn't look like losing now we don't look like winning.

Belgians are TOTALLY different from the Dutch. Also, in Belgium there's at least two different communities to be found: Flemish/Dutch speaking and French speaking.

That difference starts in the kitchen, right?

I remember my Belgian client (from Gent). I told him that on a car journey back to the UK I would be stopping overnight in the Netherlands, and therefore having dinner there. There was a short silence on the line, and then he said "I pity you, Richard". Later I stayed overnight in Gent with them and he took me to a "proper" restaurant. First time I ate a flower as part of my main course…

On the other hand whenever I cross from the Netherlands to Belgium on the Thalys train I get the slight feeling that I have moved from order into chaos….

That chaos part is certainly true. And in the southern part even times three. Belgium is a strange country.

I have worked for a Belgian company for 15 years - nothing about what is happening at Charlton surprises me!

Deep fried corgette flowers.......... yum, yum.

Belgian cuisine is rank - four kinds of chocolate, soda bread and spicy sausages at breakfast; then everything else is cooked in breadcrumbs and covered in mayonnaise. And as for their idea of rabbit stew!

The 'take away' opposite St Truiden's ground had queues round the corner. The only edible things wee the chips.

However this is balanced by the qulaity of the beer.

Nothing wrong with Belgium food. Bit stodgy but that is fine. Abbeyye in Bromley is good.

Had a great Indonesian in Holland too.

  • Fresh cherries stewed in cognac then 'enrobed' in Belgian chocolate + 3 pints of Belgian beer, a lovely hubby and a warm evening in Bruges. Who cares about the food?
