Reyhaneh Jabbari

This is a thread that is intended to highlight the horrific plight of a nineteen year old woman, Reyhaneh Jabbari, who was the victim of two utterly horrendous episodes.

First, in 2007, she was attacked, drugged and raped, but fought for her safety and freedom by stabbing her assailant.

Second, today, 25 October 2014, she was executed for killing the man who attacked her.

This thread might cause a difference of opinion and it is not intended to stir up unpleasant debate. But I am sure that most will agree that the system failed Reyhaneh Jabbari not once, but twice.

RIP.

  • Iran has an appalling human rights record ( especially against women ) so this doesn't surprise me in the least. The sad thing is that if it was a man who had stabbed the assailant , he would have probably been ok.
It's almost impossible for us to understand the process that goes on in Islamic countries.
  • It's a dreadful case, brutal.

    RIP.
  • Amnesty and the UN had worked very hard to try and stop this hideous execution. But Iran is in the grip of Islamic extremists and more than 250 people have been executed this year. RIP Reyhaneh, you never stood a chance.
