  • This CB pairing however well it may appear to be working to the naked eye, is worrying me. Of course it is not solely the CB's fault if we concede goals, but we are shipping goals for fun (luckily we are scoring them at the same or better rate every game). Imagine if our defence was tighter in these games, we'd be flying high. Of course the rest of the team have a say but wouldn't mind seeing a different CB pairing, something fresh. TBH & Bikey have their weaknesses. Gomez and one or the other may give us more security against the right team.
  • They do have a tendency to sit deep. Contrast with the opening games when they pushed out.
  • Maybe a difference whether we're playing at home or away?
  • I was at the match and whilst the marking for the second equaliser was appalling, the match confirmed the big improvement since last season. Whilst Brighton had the majority of play, they threatened only rarely and we looked dangerous on the break. I thought Buyens was outstanding, breaking up their play and creating much of ours. However we gave the ball away far too often in midfield with Cousins and Jackson being the main culprits. Clearly another striker is needed but if we can get another good one and a creative midfielder who can hold on to the ball then we should be fine.
At last we look like a comfortable Championship team rather than strugglers but realistically a top 10 finish would represent a good season and significant progress.
  • Watford and Wolves double header at home after the international break.

    It doesn't get any easier.

I have seen both Wolves and Watford play away from home this season at Rotherham as well as on TV. Both are very good sides, both have pace in attack, fluid midfields and sturdy defences with good 'keepers, especially the Watford backs, yet as teams they are chalk and cheese, perhaps bitter and sweet is more appropriate, both are very beatable.

Wolves play a straight game 4 4 2, van La Parra, Sako and Dicko constitute a very quick and able, dangerous set of forwards' McDonald quarter-backs the side from midfield (he's new to the Scotland squad and one to keep an eye on), Edwards and Evans do the donkey work along with McD, they work well as a unit. Their defence is a potential weakness: Stearman is terrific but can be rash, Batth is big, tough and a bit clumsy, Doherty (mark the name lol) is ok, Golbourne, like a lot of modern left backs is better on the front than the back foot. Keeper Ikeme is unrecognisable from the callow loanee we had a few years ago. He is now a very solid keeper indeed. Kenny Jackett likes this first eleven. I can't see many changes for the game at the Valley How they lost at the New York Stadium is a mystery, though credit must be paid to the MIllers' tenacity and organisation. The only goal came from a clearance rebounding off an attacker. Wolves are looking good .. hungry like the ...... etc.

Watford is a side made up in the main from latin nation mercenaries with all that that implies. They used a fluid 4 5 1/4 3 3 at Rotherham. A very skilful outfit who love a dribble, a late 'tackle', a dive and a bit, in fact a lot, of rolling around playing dead after the fairest of tackles on them. We all remember Forestieri, well some of his new mates make him look as tough and unputdownable as Peter With or Alan Shearer. At Rotherham at least, their playacting and gamesmanship got the referee on their side. However, it took a couple of excellent Gomes saves to keep Watford in the game in the first half. Having said all that, Watford are good and will always be a danger in attack, especially down the right wing (our left wing) where Paredes and Fabbrini (if he plays) will constitute a grave danger. Troy Deeney is the same old Greek god figure (sorry), dangerous and skilful as well as committed and mouthy. Nothing that Bikey and Ban Haim have not seen before though. The Watford side has undergone a lot of changes in personnel from game to game and of course will have a new manager/coach before the Valley game. It's therefore difficult to predict what side and what tactics, other than drama/opera/ballet/quick sharp passing and ruthless defence they will employ against the New Addicks.
Both games are VERY winnable and should produce good exciting and skilful entertainment. V is for Victory, V is for Vetokele .. ((:>) ... Come on You red (and white) sssss
    Great stuff, Lincs.

You should send this to BB.
