So pre season is over. What would be your first eleven and subs bench based on the squad we currently have (ie no Delorts, no Nick Powells and no CR7s)?

------------Henderson
----Solly Morrison TBH Wiggins
----------Buyens Cousins
Gudmundsson Jackson Harriott
-----------Vetokele

Subs: Pope, Gomez, Bikey, Wilson, Moussa, Pigott, Tucudean.

I would go with that exact side. Pack out the centre of midfield as you cannot underestimate just how tough an away game to a newly promoted side is.

A point would be a decent result and Igor has the pace and trickery to nick something at any time.

    Henderson
    Solly Morrison Bikey Wiggins
    Cousins Buyens Jackson
    Gudmundsson Vetokele Harriott

Subs: Pope, Gomez, Ben Haim, Wilson, Fox, Tucudean, Pigott.

Though to be honest i haven't seen enough of the new players.

Controversial in a way, but I think Fox has had a strong preseason and I can see Peeters putting a bit of faith in him. Gomez' time will come but I don't think it will be the very start of the season, I'd expect him to play in the COC though

Can't see us playing 4-2-3-1 at Brentford. We haven't used the formation once in pre-season.

Depending on Harriot's fitness I suspect it will be as you were at Portsmouth. If Harriot is fit he'll come in for Cousins.

I'm finding it hard to pick a starting line up without leaving out good players/players I like. That's always positive
  • Would like to see Wilson in the starting 11. Real Championship experience and our PoTY last year if you ignore the nob.
  • Pope
    Solly/Wilson
    Gomez
    Bikey
    Wiggins
    Gudmunnson
    Cousins
    Buyens
    Harriott
    Vetokele
    Tucudean/Delort

Ok. Who do we have to neutralise in the Brentford team? What dangers do they pose? Perhaps our team will have to take into account the wider context of the game.

They are a smallish side apart from Tarkofski. Os winger a danger so hope Wiggins is fit. Good spaniard in midfield also Judge but Forshaw being touted around Prem will weaken them.

    Henderson
    Solly Morro Bikey Wiggins
    Cousins Jackson Buyens
    Vetokele Tucudean Gudmunnson

433 to start with Vetokele playing wide initially

Pope, Wilson, Fox, Gomez, Harriott, Moussa, Church on the bench.

Brentford: Button; McCormack, Tarkowski (Yennaris 72), Craig, Bidwell; Tebar (Dean 72), Douglas, Judge; Odubajo, Gray, Dallas (Smith 60)

Subs not used: Lee, Moore, Reeves, Diagouraga

This was Brentford's side for the 3-2 win over Palace on Sunday. An exciting front three and Alan Judge in midfield... Tebar the new signing is probably to look out for and Forshaw or Scott Hogan could make the difference if they make their squad.
  • Henderson
    Solly, TBH, Morro, Wiggns
    Wilson, Cousins, Buyens, gudmundsson
    Vetekele, Tucadean

Harriet a little hard done by but would do no harm to drop him and make him realise he has to deliver to get in / stay in the team.

I'm expecting us to play 4-4-2 like we have for most (all?) of pre-season.

Henderson - clearly going to start as first choice

Solly - when fit, otherwise Wilson
Two of Bikey, Ben Haim and Morrison - not sure who Peeters sees as first choice, don't think he'll start Gomez just yet
Wiggins - think he's still ahead of Fox

Gudmundsson - think he's mainly been used on the right in friendlies?
    Buyens
Jackson - both seem to be ahead of Cousins
Harriott if fit, but Moussa is probably seen as the first choice

    Vetokele
Tucudean - expecting a new striker to eventually come in for him

Quite a strong side for Brentford. I've seen their centre back Tarkowski a few times and he's a good player

I main worry will be that we will stuggle with the midfield battle in a 4-4-2, like we did under CP. Gudmundsson and Harriott are both attack minded wingers who will have to hold back and defend as well.

I feel with our current squad we could adapt to a 4-5-1/4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 Feel Jackson needs to play a deeper role like Gerrard and allow Cousins, Buyens & Moussa to do the running.

After their form at the end of last season, any line-up without Wilson and Harriott seems harsh - Wilson in particular would appear really well suited to a tough scrap at a tight little ground like Brentford. That said, isn't it nice to have realistic options that mean no-one walks in. Tricky to accommodate everyone, and I haven't honestly seen enough of some of the new boys (eg Buyens, but he seems certain to start), so how about:

    Henderson
    Solly, TBH/Morro, Bikey, Wiggins
    JBG, Wilson, Buyens, Cousins, Harriott
    Vetokele

    4-5-1 becoming 4-3-3

Probably not likely but I think Wilson could manage fine in there; he doesn't always need to be played wide. Just feel that three gives us plenty of energy. Jacko plus the forwards available from the bench if we need more firepower but both wide men pose a threat. Looks as though it'll probably be 4-4-2 though, including George.

Might do but having a midfield and attack with more pace, movement and ability on the ball might take the pressure off. We had to battle a lot more when Church/Sordell etc couldn't hold up the ball and the team didn't always keep possession well.
  • Jackson has to play!

Only if he is better than the other players and FULLY fit.

Happy for Jacko to start a few games this season but would rather see him come off the bench with 20 to go. I'm sure Moussa will be ahead of him this season when fit.

It's nice to have a bit of choice but I think some pace on the bench would help as both teams tire towards the end.

I agree. Same starting team as against pompey. A win would be good but I would take a draw as long as we score a goal or two
