  • West Ham apparently just bid 12 million for a winger

Joining West Ham? He's barely moved up. I won't lie I'm upset about this, initially I was tentatively supportive, thinking he was going to a much bigger stage, but West Ham? Shows how little he thought of Charlton. Shame on him.

What ever you are on, please send some my way. How much bigger a stage than te premier league is there ?
  • Looks like a sensible stepping stone to the top to me. Should be getting games this season

He stayed at Charlton as we'd give him a chance in the first team if he was good enough. He's now gone to a club in the Prem who shouldn't be fighting relegation and he has a decent chance of playing regularly.

It's a good move for him and as much as I didn't want him to go it's better than seeing him follow Kasey Palmer etc to the top clubs where he'll probably neve play for the first team.
  • i'm beginning to think if the internet existed back in the late 80s there would no longer be a CAFC. "Move on, the valley's gone!" "lets combine with crystal palace, might be a smart business move, our owners are successful businessmen lets not forget".

Nothing will ever convince me Poyet moving isn't disgusting full stop, let alone to a localish rival and one who i'd say are the same size and who play horrendous football, albeit in the premier league.

Championship footballers get paid an extremely good living these days, let alone prem footballers. The "make money while he can" argument for me is complete and utter BS and anyone who is trying to convince themselves otherwise are deluded.

Would you or would you not change jobs if someone offered you much more money and better prospects?

I hope you think Charlton are disgusting then, they way we treated Pritchard, Cook and Gower
  • You would imagine that being voted player of the year would be of benefit to the club in any fee negotiations. That and the size of the contract Poyet was offered and how it compares to others in the squad. I think the club should be looking for a big sell on clause at the expense of up-front cash if they can get it.
  • Kentaddick - I would be interested to hear your views on how we are of a similar sized club to West Ham. I would love to wind my West Ham mates up with it but IMO West Ham score higher than us in all the criteria i regard with "being a big club"

Sadly it's a great move for the bastard.
    ;o]
  • While there's no doubt that money talks and Wham will be paying loads more than us, if you are absolutely NOT 'greedy' but professionally ambitious you would easily justify moving to them - especially as he stands a chance of first-team action...

As for loyalty, it's a bonus rather than an expectation, and as others have said, it cuts both ways. Did we offer him a long-term this time 12 months ago?

They won the World Cup and we won the Guinness soccer 6 cup. Everyone in the world knows about Guinness.

Also it's being assumed he just blew us off without any consideration, which I doubt is true. We have no idea what his motives were and if he felt like he owed us something and if it was difficult for him to make. Ultimately he's responsible for his life/career only and had to make a decision. Time will tell if it was the correct one for him but on the face of it, probably is.

Must be on a wind up. No one that says West Ham are the same size as Charlton can be taken seriously.

Their crowds are double ours, so on that basis you might as well say West Ham are the same size as Man U.
  • Annoys me to say it, but this is a good move for both Poyet and West Ham.
  • As a stormtrooper once said - "Move along"

Errrr........it is actually a nice kit. (runs and hides for cover).
  • The fact we got an agreement with West Ham makes me think maybe we never got to much for him

Fails to mention one thing..... lol

Also, reads like sour grapes from RM. "Young players should know that Charlton is the right club for them to be at because if they are good enough then they will have opportunities to prove their worth in the first team." - Is it not the same at every club!? He has also already proved his worth in our first team.

I'd have thought we'd have got more for him that we would have at a tribunal. Maybe/Probably wrong.

if it sounds like sour grapes then read between the lines. The club are far from happy about this.

Well it must have been as good as what we expected to get via compensation, or why agree ?
