When should panic mode start if there is no activity?

Well the season has just finished and we are at that point where we are waiting for developments like who is going to be our manager? Will x. y or z sign,? Who are we looking to bring in? The answers to these questions will determine how we do next season so are pretty important. It is too early to go into panic mode of course, but if we don’t hear anything, when should we start preparing to panic? Any suggestions?

    Surely not that soon!
  • It already has hasn't it?

I think we will get relegated next season if we haven't signed anyone by the end of May.

    Every season we do this.

We aren't the biggest payers so we have to wait in line for the players we want.

KM said that want to do their business early but so does every team. The play-offs aren't even over yet so the season hasn't finished.

Players will be on holiday, the world cup is coming so as ever there will be some deals done early and a lot more late on.

We'll then get the usual "why have we signed a defender when what we need are forwards" as if you have to , or can, to sign players in order of need.

We most likely won't complete all our signings until the loan window opens on 7 September.

If we don't have a squad then that is the time to be concerned, not now.

First things first, sign a manager.

I'll start panicking if in the next week a new foreign manager i've never heard of before is revealed.

Panic has already started and this season is technically still going, this place needs to be on suicide watch for the next 2 months

When the board releases the following message. "We promised that a meeting with fans would be arranged when we have taken positive steps which the fans can judge us on. We are delighted to announce that meeting has been planned for 31st July 2015".

No need to panic in anyway at the moment in my opinion, seasons only just ended. If we have not signed anyone by the end of July and or we dont know who the manager is going to be, then yes, panic a little.

    Like Riga was?

  • SLP report today that Morrison returns from holiday in 2 weeks time and has been told he will have a contract offer.

Dervite has openly said in the media that he wants to stay at the club and Riga has openly praised him

Poyet is an unknown as common sense says he would wait til end of season before making a decision, so I'd expect news soon...

Hamer I think is the MOST likely to go out of these 4 players. Blackpool wave along with lack of any positive "i want to stay" comments

Not too bothered about keeping any of the others in all honesty, not as first XI players at least. I will be far more panicked if Riga is disposed of and as mentioned, the foreign unkown comes in. Although worst considering, Riga was once a foreign unknown to us...
  • Safest thing to do with Charlton is to never stop panicking. We're doomed. Aaaaaaarrggghhhhh!!!!!

Realistically, would the likes of Morrison get a significantly better offer elsewhere? He's a decent enough player, but the clubs that might be interested in him are unlikely to be at a similar level to us.

There are about ten clubs in the Championship who are punching at a much higher weight than us. Are any of them going to be in for the players mentioned above? Poyet yes but the others? Put another way, surely we can compete on contract value with Millwall, Huddersfield, Wednesday and Borough. And once we let a few players go we can afford to pay more than the last contract.
The whole jigsaw will be finished by end July but I don't expect more than one piece a week to be put into place.
So no need to panic and I will enjoy watching the play-offs to see just how good these teams are compared to us.

If panicking gets too much you can try the Charlton alternative of being underwhelmed. You can be underwhelmed at both the lack of signings and the quality of signings.

I'll start panicking when it's proved it changes anything, enjoy the break turn up next season and see whose wearing Red shirts.

Panicking is pointless. We are never going to have it smoothe as Charlton, deal with it.

Just because there are no obvious results doesn't me that there's no activity. I'm hopeful that the board are going about their business calmly and quietly and aren't making a big song and dance about it. If, like last year, we get to the final pre-season friendly and still don't have a recognised striker, then I'll get into panic mode.

    This is Charlton.

We might have Reza and Sordell up top next season.

Or we could end up with Hasselbaink and Lisbie.

    Nothing surprises me anymore.

And to be honest I don't know which pairing I'd rather, and that's what makes us Charlton fans.

Can the club be prosecuted under trades description legislation for selling season tickets to watch a team that does not exist managed by a person who has not been recruited?

surely all the existing contract dealings would have been done before the players have gone on holiday ie now ? - in order that its less time for the likes of Morro,Poyet and Gomez (i know he cant sign til mid-month)to be tapped up!
Just seems that urgency isnt in RDC's dictionary.
