Depends on the age, experience, current playing status, salaries offered, etc of the player in question.

The young players who have broken into our team would be better served remaining with us and having a better chance of playing. A move to Liege and playing in the Champions League is glamorous but they could easily end up not getting in the team, sitting out their contract and ending up at a lower level or out of pro football.

I'd like to think that many factors would be in force such as family, how settled i was etc.

Unfortunately i know if i was offered more money and the chance to play against europes elite i just couldnt say no.

A different culture. More exposure. Possibly. Different language. Would be appealing. Few seasons there and a move back to the premier league on loan to charlton.

Not a tricky question, champions league everytime.

Would rather risk going to sit on their bench as i would be confident in my ability and make sure i got into first team, if i wasnt good enough, they wouldnt want me.

depends how old i was. 30 years old then standard no question, 18 years old, I'd rather stay in the UK and get to a point where a prem team would want me.

If Standard wanted them there would probably be interest from Prem sides.
  • No brainer - go with the money, career is short, so wages + signing on fee, what sort of imbecile would turn down basically the same job in another town for much bigger wages? However long my contract might be the club will shift me on as soon as an acceptable offer comes in and I'll never know what the club considers to be acceptable until after it happens.

You really think a player would turn down the Champions League for the Championship? Crazy.

Unless he's desperate to stay in the UK its a no brainer.

The questions the player would have to ask himself is:

Am I going to be playing regulary in the Standard team?

Am I going to be playing regulary in the Charlton team?

Is it worth moving over there for half a dozen games before we get knocked out, probably finishing bottom of the group?

Will it really be that enjoyable playing for a team that's going to be backs to the wall in all the games?

Taking into account he'll be away from friends, family and all he knows and it's not such a no-brainer.....................
