Rumours circulating that he has died ...if so, a major loss to music.

That would be tragic. Let's hope it's a poor rumour.

Confirmed by Uncut magazine it seems.

Knew he had been unwell following a transplant but still a shock.

A constant prescence on my turntable\Ipod since discovering Transformer in 1974. The Velvets were a great and highly influential band. The first three albums still sound fresh today.

    A real loss.

Linger on your pale blue eyes

Crap, looks like it is true ...such an influence on me for decades ...thanks for everything Lou ...RIP
  • The Velvets were brilliant, so much better than anything around today. Still have the double album on vinyl.
It has been a bad year for my rock heroes: Lou Reed, JJ Cale and Kevin Ayers.
  • Lou reed and the bloke who invented Doners - True innovators, and both a large part of my life, gone in the same weekend. Sad

Very, very sad. So talented. He certainly led his life on the wild side though. Just listen to the White Heat, White Light album and that will tell you a lot. :-) The track Sister Ray is something else. Great album. RIP Lou

The Velvet Underground "Andy Warhol" album is class - not really listen to much else by him but for that alone he will be missed. RIP

Not many 70 year old guys out there who could co-write an album with Metallica.

    RIP Lou.

One of the true greats. An innovator, a seeker of truth, absolutely brilliant. Along with Zappa and Beefheart a fearless artist who did it the way they wanted.
    RIP Lou.
    And thank you.

Fantastic musician and was one of the few that showed me that music truly was an artform. Will always hold his music dear to my heart. RIP.

Very Sad, haven't got enough Velvets or Lou Reed but has so influenced the music I've listened to for the past 25 years. RIP Lou.
