    I still laugh at the Good Life though I've seen them all before. I enjoyed Monarch of the Glen too when he was in it. Must be getting old!

    I'll be honest, when I was younger he was one of those people that always used to annoy me on the telly - or rather the characters he played annoyed me.

    As you get older you realise that, more often than not, that was the whole point - although I clearly didn't appreciate it at the time.

    Seemed like a decent bloke and was highly regarded by his peers, so that'll do for me.

    He had a non speaking role in the first ever telly episode of Mr Bean. It was the scene in the church where Bean blows his nose on the lining of his pocket and tries to eat a sweet but Briers keeps staring at him and in the end Bean puts the sweet in the pocket he has blown his nose on.
