dale stephens villa bid

Personally, if we are not hard up, I wouldn't take 2.5 million for him. For one he has been part of a successful side and at the moment we do not know if he has maximized his potential. A successful year in the Championship would certainly increase his value. Secondly I doubt much of the transfer fee would find it's way back into player acquisitions. I'm hoping for a quiet day.0

Let's throw some other names into the press to put pressure on Villa and bump the price.

Let's be honest, most people marking players on here don't watch the game the same way professional scouts do.tricky said:I think a lot of the reasons for his low marks in the player ratings is because people seem to have this misconception that he is thUe type of player who breaks late into the box, and so mark him down for not doing that. He isn't that kind of player. He's closer to Michael Carrick than Steven Gerrard. He keeps things ticking over, receiving and giving the ball, creating space for the killer pass.
He sometimes loses concentration, he sometimes goes missing, but if he can work on these then he will be a great rather than good player.
That said, for £2.5m, I'd take it, no question.

2 million profit after half 3/4 of a season playing for us ( argubly our best spell was when he was injured too) i'd bite their hand off and drive him up myself. ( if i could drive) but alas i'll buy him a train ticket and a ham salad sandwhich for his journey!0

It will be interesting to see if villa still sign stephens considering the fact they have had a bid accepted for dempsey. Maybe liverpool will make another bid for him.0
-
For £2.5m I'd give him a piggy back up there.
Barefoot.

But could you make it to Birmingham by the deadline?0

I do like Dale. He's learning a new role in that quarterback style position so he does go missing and fails to impose himself sometimes but at 22 he's got a lot of time to grow into it. He'll probably get better facilities to learn at Villa but he'll get far less football. He's nowhere near ready fro the Prem so I'd imagine he'd be loaned out next season if Villa's squad stays as small as it has been recently. If we kept him I'd be very happy but if we got a large fee then I think we'd have done well. Don't see £2.5m being realistic, but then Lambert did pay £3m for Lowton0

He was out for a large part of last season and wasn't missed .. Take The Money0

We're apparently in talks with Southampton regarding Dean Hammond.0

Agree - I had the same thought on the Carrick rather than Gerrard comparison. Powell seems to want him to develop in that role. Personally I mark him down as he's still learning and making mistakes. In that position you want someone that rarely gives the ball away but can also defend well - he's still got weaknesses in both areas.tricky said:I think a lot of the reasons for his low marks in the player ratings is because people seem to have this misconception that he is the type of player who breaks late into the box, and so mark him down for not doing that. I've said before I think he might really push on at some point. It'll be interesting to see, assuming he signs for Villa, if playing with better players helps him or simply means he doesn't get enough football.0 -
EXACTLY. A successful season in the Championship we could be looking at waay more. If his price is 2.5 mill now it could be 6 mill by next summer - just by virtue of having played at a higher level for a season.johnny73 said:Personally, if we are not hard up, I wouldn't take 2.5 million for him. Good addition to what we already have (and a step up from Russell /Hughes last year). But would still need to replace Stephens techincal ability.Saga Lout said:We're apparently in talks with Southampton regarding Dean Hammond.

My issue with Stephens going, is the lack of a ball player in the midfielder, and Hammond isn't the answer there0

Stephens wants to leave. Well I didn't see that one coming0

Just looked on Sky and it allegedly confirms that Stephens has told the club he wants to leave for Villa and the offer is £2M which we should snap their hands off for..sorry I think he's a bit overrated and that is a good deal for a player who is yet to really prove his worth.0

Need (and surely can now afford) Hammond plus one more.

He's going to be worth a lot more than 2.5mil in the future. Once he irons out a few concentration issues in his game he will be a very very classy player for years to come.0 -
Future maybe, 6 mil next season... not.Addickforlife said:shine166 said:loe.ldn.wpack said:

£6 million give me a break0
-
6million haha, people have been saying they would accept 500k. I would happily take 2.5million as long as it is a minimum of 1.5-2 up front.0
-
I didn't realise he was a "schemer".
That's got to add at least £1 million to the price0
