    Not sure about the unproven bit either, sure it's only one season and he was backed with signings, but he had to pick and gel a completely new squad and turned them into comfortable league winners very quickly, still a lot to prove, but unproven?

    Good spot - I'd like to think he's gone some way to prove himself. I do feel the article's pretty fair overall.

    The comment about Dennis was also spot on. Could have swapped him though, for a whole raft of players: JFH, JT, Danny Murphy et al. They didn't buy into Charlton either.

    I disagree about Danny Murphy. I think that in the end he just fell out with Curbishley. I'm inclined to think that it was his wife that felt that having a Charlton player as a husband was not quite glitzy enough. After all he rushed out of Spurs when it was clear that he was not going to get many games there.

    I think Murphy delivered on the pitch, and I also think he was one of our better players during the Premier years. He just disagreed with Curbishley punishing him for the ball throwing incident that got him sent off. Clearly both men had some pride and Curbishley was never going to be forced out of the club, and Murphy was clearly not going to play for him again.

    considering where we've been i do think he has but the club shouldnt have allowed us to get into this situation a few years back down the line

    Wad good up until the last paragraph. It's very easy to say with hindsight that Powell couldn't have failed with the players he signed , but that certainly wasn't the case at the start of the season.

    It takes a lot of courage to do what CP did.

    Got rid of the old team, then identified, signed and moulded a completely new team that then went on to win the title. There's not many boards out there that would have that much confidence in their manager.

    I think thats unfair on Dennis, what proof is there to say that he didn't buy into the ethos of the club? Although he was sometimes hit and miss on the pitch I don't think that he has was a failure at all of a signing.

    I also thought Danny Murphy was excellent for us.

    Murphy = average first season, excellent start to his second season then his form dipped and he buggered off in January. Judging by the comments when he left he always felt he was too big for us.

    Rommedahl = Always clapped the fans.

    I wouldn't say Rommedahl didn't buy into the club ethos at all. He just maybe didn't deliver exactly what was expected (which was quite a lot considering his profile). There's a big difference.

    I had no problem with Danny Murphy whatsoever until the transfer came about.

    What does "buying into the ethos of the club" really mean ? Sounds like the sort of cliche that journalists/pundits trot out when they can't think of anything else to say.
